22k in CFLs ok for recovery for a week, 4 x 4 area ?

I normally veg and flower under CFLs and HPS.

During veg I have the CFLs right on top of the plant and the HPSs ( 3 x 150s ) a foot or so above the CFLs.

Works ok.

Left for a couple of weeks and asked a fellow grower ( a friend who is now on my shit list ) to come by and water them.

He's done it before and it was fine..

Not this time..

I came home ..opened my tent...and found four very drowned ( sagging leaves , yellowing , rust spots ) plants.

Since they were close to flowering I didn't feel like starting over....so I got some Smart pots...a crap load of perlite and new soil and re potted them.

Drying out in no time.

Still a lot of yellow leaves, water leaves and a few traces of nute burn.
But they should survive..even though I am now 3 weeks behind now, due to the recovery and new good leaf required for flowering. Have to replace 3/ 4 of the leaves.
I should have started flowering last weekend. But oh well...stuff happens.

OK , now that I got the back story out of the way..here's the question.

Do you think they would be fine for a week with just the CFLs ? 22 k total. ( HPSs add another 45 k )

My way of thinking is the CFLs will put out enough light to keep them recovering without the big HPSs firing up. With HPSs on the heat rises and the AC kicks on etc. But no real difference except light spectrum. And of course 45k more lumens.
But since they are still vegging just having full daylight instead of a mix of spectrum should ease the strain of recovery.

Plants are in a 4 x 4 area, Mylar on 2 sides. No plant is more then a foot tall ( I use the bending method..so if they stood up right they would be about 4 to 5 feet tall )

So what do you think ? Just leave the CFLs on for a week and let them slowly recover. Or do I kick the HPS back on too ?

Temps and humidity are no problem either way....just worried that the strain of too much light ( especially the wrong spectrum ) will slow down recovery or even make it worse.

i veg entirely in fluorescents, i have used MH (never tried HPS for veg) but can't tell enough of a difference to justify the increased power consumption and wear on my ballast life.

but then again i only grow about 2-10 sqft so its pretty easy to light, if i were doing much more i would prolly use HM just to get better coverage and less light moving.

HPSs can veg a plant by itself.

Done it before many times...it is a little slower ( growth rate ) during vegging but works out ok.

If I had the money for a MH HID...I would get one in a heart beat as I know this is the preferred spectrum for vegging.

That's why I'm using CFLs ( 6500 k bulbs ) 8 x 2700 lumens along with my my HPSs .

Acquired them slowly over time...even took a few lamps apart for the sockets and cords. But now looking back I could have gotten a small 150 HID MH for the same price.

Hindsight is always 20 / 20

Any usually when I get my clones they are only a few weeks from flowering ( they are big ;) )

Next veg I'll look at a MH or maybe VHO CFLs 400 to 600 watt range instead of 200.
