Trump may shift midterms from a referendum on Biden to one on him — and torpedo the GOP: analysis

Donald Trump is complicating GOP efforts to win back Congress as Democrats are increasing their odds of holding both the House and Senate.

"The man in charge of the House GOP’s campaign strategy has been doling out advice to Republican candidates and incumbents in key battleground races as they prepare for the general election: Don’t be distracted by Donald Trump on the campaign trail, and instead focus on the issues Republicans believe will be most salient to voters in the midterms," CNN's Melanie Zanona reported Friday. "The guidance from Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota, relayed by three GOP sources familiar with the internal conversations, reflects a tacit acknowledgment among Republican leaders that the former president could knock the GOP’s midterm messaging off course as they seek to recapture the House majority this fall."

Many of the same candidates embraced Trump in the midterms as he backed election-denying GOP hopefuls.

"A spokesman for Emmer said the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman has indeed counseled candidates to focus on the issues that matter to voters, like inflation, crime and the border, but emphasized that Trump is not on the ballot this fall and therefore has not been a focus during their strategy discussions," CNN reported. "But Emmer’s recommendation may be increasingly tough to follow, especially if Trump announces a presidential run before the midterms – something Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, are desperate to avoid. GOP leaders want the midterms to be a referendum on President Joe Biden and the Democrats, not Trump, even though the former president relishes in being the topic of conversation."

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is openly warning that the GOP may not win the Senate in 2022.

For analysis, CNN's Alisyn Camerota interviewed former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL).

he joins us now, he's the host of the white flag podcast. joe, great to see you. s

"So as we know, Sen. Mitch McConnell chooses his words very carefully," Camerota noted. "When he talks about the lack of or basically — let me be clear, when he says that the GOP may not win the Senate because of the candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome, what's he saying in plain English?"

"He's saying that the Republicans are in real trouble, Alisyn, in taking back control of the Senate," Walsh replied.

"I mean, people like J.D. Vance in Ohio is an election denier," Walsh explained. "Blake Masters in Arizona is an election denier, Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania, an election denier. Republicans are nominating, they've nominated election deniers all over the country. These folks shouldn't do well in a general election."

i should be a political analyst....was i not saying this exact same fucking thing 6 months ago? have i not kept on saying it since then?
what the fuck are the reporters doing? waiting for people on reddit and twitter to write their stories for them?
Woodward and Bernstein would be rolling in their graves, if they weren't both still alive.

should shut them up, I'm tired of loud-mouthed trump supporters, Who in their right mind goes into a capitol kills people steal, & threatens to kill Pence? WHO DOES THAT TYPE OF THING?
have you been in a coma for the last 6 years? trump supporters do that kind of thing. they're stupid, gullible, and shouldn't be allowed to have a voice in any important decisions, as they've already demonstrated that they make horrible decisions.
trump knows how to play to people's fears, and uses that to control them through their basest emotions.
so who does that kind of thing? scared stupid people, egged on by a wanna be dictator who has never succeeded at a single thing in his entire life, but somehow always bobs back to the surface of the maelstroms he creates...

Now you know why there is such a Herculean struggle to keep Donald running around lose for a spell longer. Why J6 took so long to get off the ground, why the criminal charges in NY were delayed, but the civil trial continued and why it took so long in Georgia to bring indictments as their investigation expands into conspiracy indictments too. They need not indict Trump to get him to announce, that would muzzle him at a critical time. Once indicted the judge owns his ass and if they don't muzzle Donald as a condition of release and he incites violence that gets someone killed, there will be shit over it, the judge is responsible for his conduct while released. There are plenty of ways to rattle Donald into announcing and fucking up the republicans plans. All Joe has to do is make a speech or a press conference and call Donald a loser (use the word) and it is past time to admit it, or perhaps Obama could do it. That should provoke Donald and get him hopping! You want Donald dancing and screaming like there is a red hot poker shoved up his asshole and it's sizzling! Don't indict him until the time is just right. You want Donald crashing republican candidates rallies and events freaking out over 2020 and inciting his base to acts of terrorism leading up to the election. Defund the FBI and DOJ should be their 2022 slogan, with the orange menace leading the mob.

I contend that, at least at the top levels, this was not policy. It’s more likely fortuitous.

If it was coordinated you would never know about it and it would all be inside the lanes of the law and constitution anyway. The only thing they can control about the process is the timing and the delays in justice have been noticeable and widely criticized. Prosecutors have a certain amount of discretion, take Georgia for instance, she could bust Donald in a slam dunk election interference case with the recording and a few witnesses testifying almost immediately after the grand jury recommends indictments. She could also wait and prosecute a big conspiracy case and also include Donald who was previously busted for interference. Garland could have busted Donald and took him away in cuffs after his NY testimony, when they completed their search, that is a slam dunk case too and everybody else who ever got busted for the crime was pretty much arrested right away and held in custody until trial, the sentences are severe and Donald would die in federal prison for that alone.

that's presuming a lot...like that most of the American government actually communicates and cooperates within their separate departments...i don't see that happening, especially with the people trump left in charge, they would compartmentalize, deny, deflect, mislead, misinform...
hopefully, government on all levels will start cooperating with each other fully soon, but we still need to root out some of trump's timebomb appointees, most especially dejoy out of the post office, but ALL of these fucks have to GTFO

Not much coordination at all, except Garland could have asked NY to delay the criminal indictments. Congress was slow getting the J6 committee up and running and Garland could have pursued cases against Trump immediately after taking office. Georgia is benefitting from the public J6 panel disclosures and is also pursuing the fake electors. No coordination, just a call or two from Garland saying in the interests of justice and our national security investigations...

It could be the way things just panned out, or the delay in congress in setting things up could have had a ripple effect. Donald's crimes were so many and so easy to prove they could have had him indicted federally six months after he left office over the low hanging fruit alone. However it happened, it is adding up to a perfect storm for the republicans going into the midterms, add in abortion and you could be looking at a midterm miracle.

After taking a few tokes of this beautiful sativa Blue Dream this morning my mind started to drift and suddenly an idea took shape that scared the fuck out of me.

What if........................................mind you I was floating in some puffy clouds..................................what if trump suddenly put all of his effort behind Desantis for pres and Desantis then picked trump for VP?

You can't ask if I'm high cause I already told you I am

So, to continue. I already know trump has a 60/40 chance for walking away from all of this shitstorm he is facing. We have seen the past and the future can't be much different. So trump goes quiet but behind the lines he schemes with Desantis and they come up with a plan. With trumps base and other repubz for Desantis they may be able to pull this off.

Scary aint it?

Desantis/Trump 2024!!! :eyesmoke::rolleyes:

His VP pick will be in a cell! People and reporters will ask him if he will pardon Trump, if he runs and he loses either way he answers.

DeSantis knows TFG could send a mob to murder him and just like that TFG would be POTUS again. Too risky for DeSantis.
