200w hps street light bulb

i can get a generic 200w bulb but the spectrum is mediocre; a lot of red and not much else. can i use a 150 or 250 watt horticultural light in a 200 watt ballast? results on google were inconclusive.

It might take one or the other with no problem. Some balasts can take several bulbs.

I would get the info off the ballast an look it up online
(Alot of the time it says what bulbs it can operate H-39 M55 ect)
or call the manufacturer.

Probally not. unless it specificly tells you it can, but thats pretty unlikely. I know you cant do it with grow lights, maybe since its industrial it might work, i dont really have any experience with them, but i doubt it will.
