why would 2000W be suspect?
I build gaming rigs and minimum I put in my PC case is 800W, max I put in is 1200W.
That is for a PC alone, so imagine if you had 2 gaming PCs at 1000W.
Just pay the bill, don't use a diverter box, and don't board up your windows.
Police look for rooms boarded up to where you can never see inside.
I wouldn't worry personally.
Between a 8,000 BTU A/c and a Hardcore gaming rig 2000W is nothing.

Correct me if I'm wrong but an 800w computer will not run at 800w all the time... Same as a fridge freezer, it is only running at its rated wattage when it's chilling

if my property had a smart meter (British gas installing them in uk now) then I would not be growing as they see spikes and times of useage etc

I had no heating last winter and was using electric rads and fan heaters all round the house, my bill was 3 times what it usually would be and there was no problem.
2000 watts is not a lot, if it was 10,000 you were using then I'd be worried.

This is correct but you just can't think since I have a 1500W toaster or 1200W microwave no one will blink an eye.
A toaster or microwave isn't on for more than 2-5 minutes, a light can run 12-24 hours a day.
Even Fridges aren't on 24/7, they cycle on and off to keep the temp stable and they only really take up 100-600W for common ones.
If they asked you'll need to provide things that are commonly on 24/7, so I'd say A/c, Pc, Heater, Reptile breeder (Lol, uses a lot of heat lamps)

I have two reef tanks (salt water) both are 77 gallons and use 3000w each in heaters and 1000w MH/HPS lights alone for a possible 8000+ peak watts. I also have a 66 gal. freshwater setup which is another 1200w. I also have a small indoor grow setup which uses less than 2000 peak watts. I have never had an issue for the power company makes good money off of me. There can be many legitimate reasons for high power consumption so an investigation cannot start from that factor alone.
I am a member of a local aquatic club to which there are members with many more tanks and way more power consumption than myself. Some members have been running their tanks for decades without a single issue from the police and rightfully so.

In washington as long as you pay on time and in full won't have issues

I would be definitely cautious with a smart meter. While only rumor, I have heard that those smart meters can go as far as to identify the type of equipment being used by how the power is being drawn but until you know one way or another, it would be good to be cautious.

no power company is going to turn in a customer for investigation for a slight overconsumption, especially if and no laws are being broken like stealing power. Im sure they would prefer the revenue you create for them over the paperwork to send a customer to the police.
