20’ x 20’ grow room using Hydroponics and LEDs

background.
I help run our family business. We run a greenhouse. 13 houses currently. 4 of them we converted into growing hydroponic lettuce. We grow 4 kinds mover the past 8 years. Before that we did seasonal items such as Xmas pointsettias, Easter Lillies and tulips. And we still do spring bedding plants, flowers and garden veggies,,
So to say times are a bit tougher than they used to be I am trying to find ways to keep the business afloat for my aging parents to have something to live off and. For my sister and I who are working here trying to keep it alive. We tried smokable CBD when it was legalized here in Pa, but once it was legal. The market was super saturated and barely could make our investment back.
so it leads me here to take a huge risk.. but im not cramming 80 plants in there. That’s is a lot for my and my friend to take care of during harvest time. And how in the hell would I

The growing area is 20x20, but the room is 20x25. I’m gonna use the 5x20 area for tanks, pumps and the door entrance. My 20x20 grow room was our old insulated bulb cellar we made to keep the tulips and daffodils cold and slow growing to mimic winter. The room is insulated with 8” of styrofoam. So heating and cooling will be minimal in each season.
what I want to do do is grow weed hydroponically in a Dutch bucket system.i don’t want to cram a ton of plants in there and hope they grow and don’t fight for light. If I cram as many as I can in the room, the hydro system isn’t feasible. I would have to go to 3g pots and dirt growing. Which I could. I have a fertilizer injector to feed the plants with and I have water line in the room
I wanted to use hydro cause I already do it with lettuce, and it’s easy planting and cleanup with using pearlite and emitters..
my first run is going to be in a reg greenhouse just using pots and dirt mix so I can get the funds to do this grow room. Cause the room is attached to garage and hidden with a large door I can lock and keep eyes away. I don’t need to worry about power useage with LEDs cause we use a lot already.
I want to grow med to bigger plants to get the yield. I. Was thinking of blue dream, or GG4 strains.
I plan on. Uilding the room late summer. And I’m gonna go all out. I’m gonna get a controller to control the lights, CO2, heat and humidity, control the dosing pumps for pH and the 2 part feed.

My major question is for lighting. In a 20x20 room, what size/type (1000w led etc. ) of fixtures would you go with, and how many should I use the room.
my other Q is with my hydro idea. I know I am loosing some space by wanting to use it. But I don’t need a lot of plants to be successful.

for a drying room/area I plan on using a tent. Say I do 50 plants, what size tent would you all recommend?

I had a ton of questions before this, but now drawing a blank.
Anyone have anything to add or any Q they want to ask, then plz ask.

Typical LEDs for 5x5 tents are 750-1000 watts, so its a lot of power and heat. You'll need sufficient AC for that plus one or more big dehumidifiers.

So if I did the 850-1000w per 5x5 I would need 16 lights? Ouchies. lol
I got the AC covered. Used to be a bulb cellar si it’s a big refridge. I would just need decent humidifiers and a heater. It’s has 8” of foam on all walls and ceiling. So I’m gonna add reflective Mylar to all 5 walls.

Just be careful what you buy.
Lot of "1000w" lights that are in name only.

Meaning look at the actual power draw.
There are still lights marketed in acway would have you think its a 1000w when it's 120w, though luckily that is no longer the norm.

Get opinions before you buy any lights

If your not looking to max out I would do 2 rows 5x20 that leaves plenty of room around each row to work the plants.Trust me you will need plenty of ac an dehumidifiers any one who thinks leds dont make heat have never run them 8 700 watt 8 bar lights will cover that.

You want 16 lights ~ 800W each.

And will probably expend another 1000-2000W on fans for air circulation and other grow room power devices like dehu,

That gives you around 14-15000W you need to dissipate heat from. Hopefully your noon has a minimum of 50,000BTU cooling capacity. A little more would be even better.

Sorry to hear about the challenges your facing keeping the business afloat. It is an honorable thing to want to make sure your parents are taken care of.

Good things are coming your way!
