I thought I clearly explained why I, myself wouldn’t attempt this exact experiment.
I’ve done my share of tinkering on behalf of the greater good and usually get shit on by people that haven’t tried sweet fuck all. but

I suppose I am wrong.
Glad all you guys that have tried it are chiming in and explaining it to the rest of us.
I stand corrected and hope that no one ever tries this and wastes their time.
Once again do you really think every combination none to man hasn't been tried already? If there was a better way we all would be doing it. So the answer to your question is NO it's not a good idea. We're just letting you know don't waste your time.

So you've tried it/know someone who has/read about someone doing it then?
I'd love to hear about it since you seem to be a expert.

Plants easily start flower with 14 hours of light and 10 of dark and we know they can flower with 14 dark and 10 light. I see no reason this wouldnt work aside from it being a little hard on the grower.

Knock your socks off my man show us that it works then. May work I mean the planets will grow at least. Like you said yourself, it would be making it harder on the grower. It would be making it harder than it is. If you or anyone can show you get better results then 24 hour days we'll all switch to your NEW way.lol good luck

I've said the main reason I havent is it's hard to find a price effective timer for it and that's likely why people arnt trying it. I have a full time job an am too busy to be doing things like this but theres no reason to discourage others who may have more time.
I believe setting a timer to 10 on and 14 off and moving it forward 4 hours each day during lights out will be the easiest way.
I dont see any reason this wouldnt work, if you've ever grown outdoors lemme know how many hours of dark there is when plants START TO FLOWER. Hint, its 10.

Where does the remaining 4 hours go ?
The question asked by the op was if using a 10/10 cycle reducing the total day to 20 hours would work and or speed up flowering. The 4 hours would but part of the next days on cycle.
Would be a total schedule nitemare but all these experts are positive that flowering requires 11 hours minimum of darkness for hormones to build up.

I mean, hey I would definitely be interested in seeing what happens if someone else did it...I just can't/wouldn't try it in my own grow because I'm too short on meds to be experimenting lol.

Trust me even if someone tried it, documented it and it worked there would still be more masters chiming in explaining how the results aren’t worth anything.
Some people are just fixed in their beliefs and that’s part of why not many people try anything except the industry standards.
An those that do experiment to try and find legit answers vs repeating heresay based on 100year old text books keep their mouths closed and don’t share

Not the answer to the Op's question. You'll find our beloved plants does some unconventional shit when it comes to flowering at times.Environmental factors, grower skills, nutrition and genetics are all at play.
I've vegged(sucessfully) under glr,6/6/6/6,14/10 and of course 24/0 18/6 and 16/8.
24/0 I'll never run again.I'm of the belief every living thing needs some sleep/downtime.

Flower,I now run 10/14. I've run 13/11 12/12 and 9/15. Never ran 10/10 to try to flower would be an interesting experiment.

I lol'd because these thread debates get really heated with very little civil discourse. Some feel their experiences with their cultivars are the only experiences valid.
We haven't even begun to scratch the surface of what's capable with mj when getting away from conventional old grow book rhetoric.
@torontoke keep hope alive bro!

@Op I say try it.Small plant that doesnt take up much space in your grow, maybe a 1 gal container and compare that clone to a run you've done before with the same cultivar..Oh yea, let us know how it turns out.

Lol I’ve all but given up on this topic all together.
No hope involved
Doesn’t make any difference to me what others believe or how they grow.

I’ll just wait for somebody to jump on that grenade and actually document the real result.

I’ll just stick to the basics. Looks like the KISS METHOD : KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID just flew out the window and has a lot of supposition not worth wasting grow time . Stunting plants is like stunting kids ... why ?
