$20 Cool Tube

$13 vase from walmart.

That's 6" ducting.

Glass cutter was $5. I made a rig to hold the cutter and vase so I got a nice even etch. I then slowly poured boiling water over the line to warm the glass and then switched to cool water to cause a stress fracture at which point the bottom just fell off. Worked beautifully and gave me a nice clean break.

This is the edge I cut. No sanding and it's still pretty smooth.

A bit of bailing wire and we are ready to go.

What size are some of those pots?! I notice everything is in earlyish flower, but some of those to me look like 1 or so gallons...... also how much did this help your temp drop and such in the room?!

Those are all still in veg - they were under a HPS as I just moved and couldn't find my MH. They are now under a MH. 3 of them are in 5 gallon aero pots and the other is in a 10 gallon aero pot - the plants are larger than they look in the picture. My temps dropped around 15 degrees but what is more important is how close I can get the plants to the light - easily a good 6-10 inches.

Unsure of the wattage you are using but, will this work with a 600 watt hps? And did you ever have any cracking problems with the glass due to heat from the light?

I'm running a 600w in there and have tried both MH and HPS bulbs and it fits both with plenty of room - fits my 1000w HPS as well.

This is NOT tempered glass to my knowledge so I was slightly worried about stress fractures. Luckily the glass is very thick and the break I made was clean so there is no point from which a fracture should start. Being hot shouldn't cause fracturing either as the glass is heated slowly and evenly and allowed to cool the same way. I'm a bit careful with cool water around it though; cold water with the hot glass could cause problems.

Okay, cool. I was getting worried because cool tubes are entirely to expensive, and a 600 you def. need to cool. Could you tell me the dimensions of your vase? I have one that looks exactly like yours, just want to be sure.

Looks like it's a 6" diameter, 14 3/4" long and 1/4" thick glass.

I used the hot water cold water method shown here:
