2 strains...nute questions

Hello to all. Been away from the board for a while but I'm back. Sorry to those who sent PM's with no reply.

I hope some can offer advise on my current issue. I am growing 2 strains (unknown,...(the clones were given to me) but but from the looks of them 1 is Bubblegum and the second is White Widow) which seem to be doing quite differently. At 8 weeks in to flower the Bubblegum looks fantastic....very frosty super potent, perfect trichs (under a 100x scope) and ready to harvest in a week or so. The WW looks very strange. After a lot of reading it appears these are 2 strains I shouldn't grow together in the same hydro system simply because the BG can tolerate a much higher PPM. From the very beginning the WW ( Again, I'm guessing at the strain) showed signs of nute burn and these gradually got worse. I felt like an idiot....my meter was way out of calibration and rather than checking that I assumed other problems. I know..I know...I'm a fool. Anyway....I have these HUGE WW colas with pistils galore but even after 8-9 weeks they pistils are not withering....the calyxs are not swelling, and the trichs are very small and few between. If this plant looked healthy I'd say that I'm about 4 weeks away from harvest but we're going on the 9th week. So here are my questions:

1. Has anybody experienced a similar situation?
2. It is way too late to do anything about it?
3. Should I leave them and hope to see the withering, swelling and trich formation?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Come on guys.. Someone must have some ideas. Is this the type of question that seems a little beyond newbs and is also considered amateur behavior by the more experienced? Come on guys.....I've been doing this for about 20yrs(5 of them hydro) and have typically grown strains (strong indica influence......bubblegum, chrystal, etc.) that do well running about the same PPM. I can generally get about 20oz of great bud (check out my last grow) out of a 12sqft area. This time I rec'd cuttings from a friend (2 different strains) who had no idea what they were although he was fairly sure that 1 of the strains was WW and the second one was "something I had given him earlier in the year". From what I've read, WW is a lot less tollerant to high PPM than similar strains and first time growers often mistake the beginning signs of nute burn for MG deficiency. That's exactly what I did. When I realized my meter was fucked it was too late. This is my best guess as to why I have 3-4 plants out of 12 the in the same hydro system that look strangely sick. I assume those are the WW that were subjected to high PPM for a majority of the flowering period and I now have these huge colas with no swollen calyx's, a boatload of white pistils, few and small trichs, dead or almost dead fan/cola leaves, and almost 9wks in flower! WTF???? By the way...the few trichs they do have are mostly opaque. I don't know whether to cut em down or let them go longer. I'm sure SOMEONE has encountered this before.

i just had the SAME thing happen with some northern lights clones, it was the strangest thing, i had 2 plants that i made a bunch of clones off of, so anyways i had 20 clones growing, all from the same 2 plants, anyways they all finished within a few days of eachother except for one, it was doing the same thing as yours, what i kind of figured it out to be was to much nitrogen in the soil, because there was 2 very distinct phenos in the bunch and they one doing this was in a pot which i had added some manure and other time release stuff like that, so anyways it kind of sounds like this could be whats going being that you have in your system, your ferts are good for one strain and not balanced right for the other, i came upon this theory remembering that when i have a plant i want to clone after its done flowering ill add a high dose of nitrogen and it helps kick the plant back to veg, what i did for mine was flush the hell out of it then change my nute solution to cut out any nitrogen and sure enough it finished up in a few more weeks, what i would do if i were you would just wait till the first was done then adjust the nutes out of the solution...hope this helps, it confused the shit out of me when it was going on

Thanks FS. You and I are thinking along the same lines. I'm assuming that excess N caused problems with the veg cycle. I did flush some time ago (right when I realized that my meter was screwed) but couldn't keep up the flush for too long due to the other plants in the system. Since that time I backed way off on the nutes and hit em with Carboload and Overdrive. As I said the Bubblegum looks like some of the best I've ever grown but the other strain looks as I described. I may need to suck it up and make bubblehash with the WW unless someone tells me a way to salvage the others.

Re-center ~

Let nature take its course. I've had a plant go 12 weeks that was "supposed" to be ready in 8. Plants don't follow forum paradigms or marketing scripts.

What exactly caused your excess N?

Keep the plants healthy, that means keep it GREEN, N provides that and will not delay floweriing unless used in great excess. Carboload or some other cannabis rocket fuel is not your savior, good leaf health is.

Read your plants and react accordingly, PPM values are a tool and nothing more. The biggest problem I see in forums is folks giving their plants too high P "bloom" foods which induces leaf chlorosis and leaf drop, and then wonder why their yields were compromised.

I now have these huge colas with no swollen calyx's, a boatload of white pistils, few and small trichs, dead or almost dead fan/cola leaves, and almost 9wks in flower! WTF????
Can't finish the plant correctly if you don't have the very unit that makes it happen (an abundance of healthy fan leaves).

Good luck,
UB

Thanks UB.

My biggest mistake was 2 strains in the same hydro system. I know my nute solution was way too strong for one of the strains based on previous experience. I purposely didn't mention the PPM because I know that would have solicited a bunch of incorrect replies. I have seen several posts from newbs asking "what PPM should I run?". You and I both know that plants in different systems require different strengths based on the SYSTEM. I am doing aeroponic and after multiple grows I know that 690PPM is ideal for me because they are so efficient. When I see people telling others 1200-1800 is ideal I cringe. Maybe that works for E&F, DWC, drip, etc......but anything near 750 wipes my stuff out. The person who provided 1/2 the cuttings is using exactly the same system and had similar problems when he asked what I ran and duplicated it. Most of his stuff showed signs of nute burn. Unfortunately he didn't tell me that until it was too late. When I asked him to take his best guess as to what the cuttings were he mentioned WW. I know from experience that WW is way more suseptible to nute burn at the values I was running for the Bubblegum. This the overnute issue. The Carboload and Overdrive were more for the BG and the reason I mentioned that was to indicate that I'd quit using AN 3part.......was adding ONLY the final products and was going to start flushing soon. I didn't mean to suggest that I thought either component would save 1/2 of the grow. I think bubblehash is in order for the WW as I think any more time is taking away from my next grow. DAMN!

I dont have much info to help you except for thew fact i grow bubblegum and its much more sensitive to nutes than my Skywalker and shiva skunk, but i grow in soil so this info might be useless. Thought any info is good info though, good luck.
