Most of them do not use their own money to run.

The fact that it is expensive to run is both intentional and a big problem in itself.

Why is it desirable for the wealthy to be so over represented?
That's one thing that I think should be changed, and it's not only an issue in the US but is much more pronounced there.

In the UK there are restrictions on spending, etc, but as is usual they do break these rules as well as regularly fiddle things with absentee ballots and the sums being spent are becoming ridiculous.

Here in Belgium things are very different, with funding, spending and so forth being strictly controlled. Big business and the super rich cannot buy the influence they can elsewhere and since things are so strictly controlled we don't have the theatrical nonsense like X-Factor style TV "debates" and all the other popularity contest bullshit that has infested the political process in the UK and US, leaving a much better situation as you don't get the overload of lies, fantasies, delusions and, frankly, absolute claptrap that builds up for at least a year before an election.

It's just a shame the entire political system here is such a clusterfuck nothing can ever change no matter who you vote for...

I agree religious businesses should be taxed like the rest.
Another one that should face some much closer scrutiny are "Non Profit Organisations" as well as charities as many of them are nothing more than scams who also wield an unfair level of influence at political level, yet nobody will mention that influence and the potential profits to be made as these NPO's and "charities" get policy changed to satisfy them...

Tax every dime of funds that doesn't actually get spent on the non profit's started purpose. They can pay taxes on salaries, overhead, admin costs, etc. Bet that crap will be well contained going forward...

If people would actually look closer at these QUANGO's, NPO's, NGO's, "charities", etc, they would get the shock of their lives at the excesses and influence wielded by such groups, but instead all we see is sheeple following that rallying cry of these very EXTREMELY vested interests, and profits contained therein, and rail against the "Evil Corporations".

Now, I ain't saying business isn't in it up to their necks, far from it. But it isn't right that one party is condemned whilst another, who is making an absolute fortune at the expense of the taxpayer thanks to assorted subsidies, gets a free ride.

Control of the number of licences and size of "farms" so there isn't the mad free-for-all Colorado has just had?

After all, quality over quantity will be likely to keep prices, and therefore revenue, higher.

Black prices will rise accordingly, staying just below legal or slightly above for quality, just as you find with the way the trade works in Holland.

After all, they're only ever going to charge what people are stupid enough to pay...

That's how Oakland worked.
Then rec passed and kicked prices in the weiner for everyone.

It's painful to watch the thought process of growers sometimes.... "Prices suck, I better grow more weed", combined with "Rec is gonna pass, better grow even more weed", not thinking of the market, just their own income...
And here we are, when a lot of folks I know DREAM of $2 a gram.

I may not be popular for saying this, but I think low prices are good. It weeds out the amateurs, provides access to those who need it but can't afford it- that is, I know a lot of sick people, very very few of whom have money- and reduces the incentives for thugs to abuse the system and the customer.

There's no natural reason why cannabis can't be $1 a gram, just regulatory ones.

Let anyone in who wants to play, let competition sort out those who can grow a quality product and manage a business from those who can't.

Not even regulatory reasons (not to discount them)...
The reality in the Triangle right now is basically $1/g as is. Most folks I know are black market, where regs are bubkus... Even at $500 a lb, folks have weed leftover. It's July, so last harvest won't fetch "full" price anymore.
