1x1000w hps or 1 600 + 1 400hps

I really need some help regarding new lighting for my 4 x 4 tent.

I currently use a 600w hps, and am happy with my grows so far, but am at the stage where i want to upgrade to 1000w, so my one grow a year actually lasts me a whole year!

Here is my dilema.

I was about to buy a single 1000w hps, but have just been offered another dimmable 600w hps for free, exactly the same as i have already. I also already have 2 identical reflectors already.

I was thinking i could alternate the power settings on the 600ws on a daily or weekly basis between 600 and 400w, so that i am still always running 1000w, rather than spend £350+ on a single 1000w ballast and compatible reflector.

Can you come up with any ideas why this might not be a good idea? Just being a tight arse and not wanting to fork out on more equipment!

My method of growing is scrog, and hydro if that makes any difference at all, with 4 plants only.

I'd leap at the free light,

as you can germ under the 400w at a distance, then lower as the plants develop

once 2-3 weeks old you can bring in the 600w for extra grunt

and later say late veg you can have both lights running

saves cash on power and excess heat on young plants too

having 2 lights gives you 6-8 plus options over just one big light

with maybe 2-3 options ..up down and off..?

flower with the 600 hps and run the 400 watt mh next to it in flower will be a quality grow for sure .

To be honest i am happy with the quality of the strain i grow already. Because i only do one grow a year Yield is the most important thing for me.

Guess i should of asked if you think i will get the same yield with a 4 and 6, or a single 1000.

I think you will get more with the 1000k it will penetrate a LOTT deeper . way deeper . you need sunglasses with the 1k lights the 600 mabe the 400 naaaaaa
