1st Grow Journal

Well, this is my first grow journal. Not much to say really. it's been about 3 days, and you can see the little seed popping it head up.

I'll post the pictures.

Sorry about the quality, for some reason the camera refused to focus on the seed...

I'm using a mixture of 1/3 "backyard" soil, and 2/3 some name brand potting soil, in a 5 (could be 4 1/2, not too sure) gallon container. Can't remember the name, not miracle grow. I got one 27W 1700 Lumen CFL on it. I intend to start using all 4 of my 48", plant flourals. Along with the CFL.

Whaddya think?

Looking great. You're also going to need an oscillating fan.:bigjoint:

What strain?

Looking forward to watching this one pan out.

Alright, sorry for the lack of updates, I just haven't had much to show. :P

Anyway, it's been 11 days since I've updated. I've got some awesome stuff to show you...

I've been watering, every few days, because the mixture it's staying nice and damp.
With every bottle, I use a smaaaaaall capfull of miracle grow plant starter nutes.

I've started an oscillating fan on it, on a low setting.
Also, I plugged in another CFL, so, now up to two, so 3400 lumen.

The only thing I'm worried about is the slight crippled look of the leaves.
If you look closely; the big leaves, they have a shriveled look.

I think it's the heat from the CFL's. So I'm trying to cut it down by using the fan. I hope it works.

Oh, man, you know, I collected few seeds from random bags over the course of... say... a year?
So it could be anything from mediocre ditch-weed, to fucking skunk.

This particular seed was the fifth one I germinated before deciding on which one was the best.

This is mainly an experiment before I take the plunge of a HPS and,
dedicating a room--or a significant volume of space--to growing.

I just hope it turns out female. :P

Your plant is young and i don't think she needs any nutes yet, because it's still so tiny i would only use 1 cfl at this point. Place it directly above the plant 1" from the top, if you don't know how much 1" is get your tape measure out. Use a reflector. Also mount the cfl horizontal or sideways if you can. As the plant grows you will need more light/s.
Good Luck!

Edit: I just noticed the tin foil. Tin foil is bad for reflecting light and good for reflecting unwanted heat.

Allright, it's been about 4 weeks now, and my little plant is doing very well.

I've been watering it every few days, about half a small water bottle full. Keeping the soil moist--but not wet.

It's been keeping at around 75 degrees (luckily) and I've started an oscillating fan on it, also a third CFL light. It's showing some rapid new growth.

One think about the soil mixture I've noticed.

It holds JUST the right amount of water. But still drains. It's prefect.

This is my first grow, and I've never used miracle grow, or Fox or anything, so I can't say much. But, I've had no problems whatsoever with this.

Anyway, check out the pictures, and give me advice!

I'd love suggestions on what to do next.

Edit:
Also, it's starting to smell >.> Like bud. A lot. Is this a good way to tell if it's female?

AND. And. When would it be appropriate to use those big plant lights (pictured below)? I was saving them for flowering; considering it's a lot of red light.

Whaddya think?

Your plants are looking fine... Turn on those lights... Even when flowering, keep on the original veg' lights too.

Plants grow the best bud with a mixture of red and blue light. More light also equals more bud... during veg' your plant will grow quicker.

When should I switch to 12, 12?
I know it's not soon or anything, but, what would be a good time?

Also, do you really think all that light would do anything noticeable; besides raise my energy bill?

I was thinking of possibly keeping them off until it gets a tad bit bigger. 4 X 40, 27 X 3. 241W.
That would just seem to me, like a lot of unused wattage. Especially if I've got it at 18/6.

This needs to be as energy efficient as I can make it to be. That's my main concern.

What do you think?

Your plant is looking very good, it should realy start taking off. I also think you placed your lights and built those reflectors really well. How come its only one plant, what if its male?

Firstly, thanks :) And secondly, this is mostly just an experiment to see what I could do, with what little I have. So far I've not spent one dollar on this. In fact, all the stuff I got from around the house.

And as far as the male issue, well... My fingers are crossed as hard as they can be.
