Hello everybody!

I've been smoking for 10 years now, but only this year I had the occasion to grow something by myself, and I am very proud of it.

You are about to read the journal of my very first grow. There will be plenty of pics, too.

I'm starting this journal late (it's day 120 today, and I still have months to go), but I want to share with you, RIU people, my little piece of experience.

I learned a lot from this community, and I feel now it's a good moment to share something with you.

Comments will be greatly appreciated, and as for your questions, I'll try to do my best to answer.

So I saved these 4 seeds from this weed I had in february. I accidentally smoked out two more, so I had only 4 left.

I don't know the strain, but it was really :joint:

strong weed.

This is my set-up:

- generic soil from supermarket
- no nutrients, just tap water
- roof fan (mostly on), plus wind when it blows
- lights: no lamps, only sunlight!
- Lots of love and attentions :weed:

Where I live I have 15 total hours of light (at summer solstice) from sunset to sunshine, and about 5-6 of them are direct sunlight that comes thru the windows.

I didn't really plan to grow MJ like a pro, at start: I didn't even know if the seeds would have sprouted, and if the set-up was capable of a decent grow... but I tried, and it's going more than fine by now!

I planted the seeds straight in soil and watered, in late march with a full moon.

After about a week, I had the first pleasant surprise: the first seed had sprouted!

Nothing to say here, but my happiness!

Looks pretty decent, soil looks a bt ravished, but meh you do what you gotta do.. You gunna grow em out in those cups?

What kind of soil is that? if there is wood mulch in ther get rid of it.

The little baby was so stretching ad weak, that I had to support the stem vertically: it would have fallen to the ground otherwise.

Weakness aside (we had very cloudy days), growth was just fine: the first set of single-bladed leaves was formed, and the second was already on the road.

On the very same day, I had another pleasant surprise: another seed had sprouted!

That white thing you see in the pic is the rooting sprout.

I accidentally overturned the sprouted seed because of a too rough watering, but I discovered that only the day after that it was turned upside down!
I didn't see any growth, so I checked underground.

I had to rearrange the sprout manually in soil, turning it upside down (in the right direction).
After a water flush, it was ready to grow correctly.

Hello!

I used the small cups for sprouting, but I already have transplanted twice... more about that later in the journal.

Hello!

Soil is marked as "universal soil, with organic compost".

Composition (as the package reads):
- Organic substances: 20%
- Ashes: < 80%
- C/N ratio: 25
- C: 25%
- N: 1-1.5%
- P: 0.5-1.5%
- K: 1-1.5%
- PH: 6.5-8.5
- Cu: 150 ppm
- Zn: 500 ppm

I thrown away any wood I have seen.

Far from being the perfect soil, I know, but it works for me.

Here are some pics from days 17-38: the babies are growing, and the first one doesn't need support/backing anymore.

Baby #1, now strong enough - Day 17:

Soon it was time to transplant in bigger pots... I used 1.5 liter plastic bottles bottoms.

Babies #2 (on the left) and #1 (on the right), transplanted - Day 38:

The other 2 seeds (out of 4) did not sprout, I thrown 'em away.

those look damn fine for using soil from ur back yard and sun from a window. when your ready to bloom make sure you put them in a totaly dark place like a closet or w/e so theres no light leaks

So I knew I had to look at internodes to spot first sign of sex.

So I had: Day 40

Hello and thanks for the tip!

They're already blooming (I'm at day 120 today, pics will follow), trying to avoid light leaks in the night.

Stipules are well developed, but what's that thing I see there?

Baby #1 on the left, baby #2 on the right:

I spotted yellowing leaves all over the bottom of plant #1, along with burned tips on the upper leaves on the same plant.

Reading the FAQ, I diagnosed an N deficiency and a slight MG def.

I treated it with a general fertilizer for vegging (sorry I can't remember the NPK ratio, but it was in the right range).

But the plant reacted very badly: as soon as the day after, the problem went even worse!

I asked RIU for help, then dediced to give up with nutes, only tap water from then on.

Surprisingly, it worked! Seems like my plants don't like nutes

Plant #1 turned out to be a male on day 46.

The other one still in vegging: good sign, I know (and hoped for).
