1st Grow, DIY DWC, Crystal Rain please comment!

Hey All,

I got started on Sunday night and I wasn't going to do a Journal, but I have had a lot of questions already so I figured I might as well.

I germenated 5 Crystal Rain seed and 3 Mazar X Afghan seeds I got from Marijuanaseeds.nl.

They all cracked well. I put them under a plastic humidity cover for two days basically in the dark with a little bit of light.

They stretched like crazy, I can't really put into words how agressivly they stretched. I was stressed about it all day. So tonight I finally decided to go ahead and put them in my DIY DWC Bubbler.

I got my 400w HPS light in the mail before I got my (4) 6500K CFL's that I had inteded to Veg with.

I put my rockwool's down in the pots to pretty deep to hopefully help/reduce the stretching or maybe to just give myself the illusion that I am not screwing up my first grow in the first 5 days.

So I went ahead mixed a 1/4 nute mix put the light down as close as I could get it without burning my babies and now I am hoping for the best.

Putting them down lower was a good play, my man.

DWC veteran here to help you along the way.

I plan on keeping them under the 400w HPS until monday or tuesday.

When my CFL's get here I will crank them right down on top.

Will Changing the lighting hurt/shock them?

Switching off to CFL's won't hurt them a bit, bro. What wattage are they?

Not sure yet, I ordered (4) 6500k spectrum bulbs. The listing did not specify what the actual wattage was.

So I fried 2 of my babies over the past couple of days. I am assuming it was from my 400w hps. It had my water temps up to 98F. I cooled the water down and temporarily have what is left under two 50/100/150 3 way cfl until my good cfls show up. Thing are off to a rough start, I went Ahead and started germing a few more replacement seeds.

Oh yeah, 98 deg water will kill them really fast.

I lost a batch of clones because I didn't have proper ventilation for the cabinet and forgot to leave a fan blowing on it. The water got really hot, I'd say 88+. Needless to say, I went to radio shack the next day and vented my veg box and now temps are at a steady 82F with water temps at ~74F.

Good call on starting the new seeds. Hopefully, you can pull these around since they already have roots. My cuttings didn't have that luxury.

I read through your journals last night.

I have a couple of babies that are still pretty strong looking on the top and in the rock wool cube but the middle of the stem is all shriveled up. Do I toss these too and start over?

I will get some pics up in a few. In the meantime i just got my cfl's and I am not very happy. They are 23 watt 6500k. Good spectrum but I am not sure if it is enough. I only have one 10 gallon tub with eight pod on it. If I put four of these babies on it is it going to be enough?

The 23w should be good for now but id get like 1or2 42w cfl's to put in there untill you switch to your HPS? for flowering.

Wyven, those 4 6500K 23watter's will do for the first 2-3 weeks.

If you need more, just go to walmart. Two 26w 6500K's can be had for under $10.

So I have been hard at work on my first grow. I can't say enough about this site and wonderful mentors such as Roseman, without these resources I would be lost.

So here we are at my 5th week of flowering with my Crystal Rain in the front with the nice Cola's in the back are some bagseeds, I killed four Mazar x Afghan's and three other Crystal Rain's to get to this point.

I switched early on the a DIY Bubbleponic system, I vegged under 5, 75W CFL's, now I am under a 400w HPS.

notice pictue #6, the fast growth put that top too close to my 400w and it got burned, when it recovered it started growing three tops?

wow my main man, talk about a big change from your last post!!! looking sexy as fu@k main. so i would like to know some details about your grow like how big were the plants when you switched to 12/12? how big are they now? how much do you think you'll get per plant? i got a 400w going now, first grow ever so am very interested in yours. def pulling a chair for the end of this one.

Thanks Big Sky, this has really been a fun experience for me, I can't wait to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

I started from seed and vegged for 5 weeks, they were about 2.5 ' tall when I switched and almost doubled in size by the time they stopped verticle grow, which is pretty typical.

I would love to hear some opinions on my estimated total harvest weight b/c I have no clue. I have one Crystal Rain who is the one in the pictures and 4 bag seeds. The bag seeds are very a very different strain. The leaves are very hardy and started showing trich's earlier than my CR so I think they will be good. I am hoping for 2-3 oz's from my CR and maybe about the same for my bag seeds. I have three good bag seeds and one runt. Please chime in your weight guesses. I have three weeks left.

good job bro DIY DWC was my first set up also. they r kick ass performers as u can see

in the "show off your 400w" thread ive seem people get 7 oz wet and 3 dry is common. i'm hoping for anything more than 1 oz a plant off mine.
