the leaf curl is making me a little worried...over watering?.....maybe not enough light????

Ok leaf curling is never about light. Not enough light will make the plant get really lanky- as in big gaps of thin branch between nodes (nodes are points where branches and leaves grow out of) and will make it look pale and anemic.
The curling in the picture doesn't look too bad (actually it's how i've seen a lot of small seedlings starting out) but it's probably a sign of a water level it doesn't like. If I had to guess then maybe you are watering just a little too much- but then again if you know you have had it wet and never looking dry on the surface then it could be the other way around. Push your finger in to it and it should feel moist but not wet. Let it dry out so it looses a few shades of darkness but don't let it get to that dry dirt light brown too long, if at all. Be mindful that the very very surface might look dryer than whats underneath so that's why you do the touch test.

Thanks guys, I think you are right on the watering. I have been giving them each about 30ml of water once or twice a day because every time I check them in the morning and at night the soil looks completely dry on top. I think this is partly because I have a fan oscilllating over them all day and the humidity isn't quite high enough. I have a couple questions:
1. Do I have to have a fan going at this stage of there growth?
2. Is 30ml too little water? It is just enough for a little to start coming out the bottom of the cup. Maybe I should flood them with a lot more water so that all the soil in the cup is drenched and water them less frequently?

1) u dont really need the fan until the stalks are strong enough to withstand a little wind. the fan moves air around and A) makes the stems stronger because the plant thinks it is natural wind so it reacts by strengthening its own stem to handle it and B) it moves air around (mostly during flowering) to prevent stale moist air for PM to grow, ETC.

2) there is so many factors involved in how many milliliters of water is an OK amount, heat, humidity, lights, ETC. i wouldnt go off the ml as much as i would the soil and color of soil at this point, maybe someone in a 83 degree veg room feeds their seedlings 30 milliliters and another at 79 degree does 30ml but he overwaters, see what i mean? evaporation, ETC....


why did u take the bags off anyways?????, i kept mine on until the fan leaves were touching the inside of the plastic. i never had anything but robust green leaves and i kept my fox farm ocean forest soil super moist all through out seedling growth.... (the sandwich bags were STILL ON at this point, i only took them off for the pic) look at MY soil, ultra wet

It has been 6 days since they sprouted from the cup, have them planted in FFoF and have been using distilled water, no nutes just yet but have the full foxfarm line. The true leaves (not the cotyledons) are drooped slightly down.. How often are you watering them? Do you test the soil about 1/2 an inch from the top first?

Ok I didn't notice this quote from you.. This is too much water... Don't water as frequently, and water thoroughly when you do, so that just a tiny bit of water leaks out the bottom of the container they're in.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think you are right, too much water, not enough humidity. The reason I took off the bags was because the leaves are getting longer and starting to touch the bags on the sides and I didn't want mold to form on the leaves. Bags are back on and we shall see how it goes. I will check them tonight and post some pics either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Day 21
Finally and update! What do you guys think? I included a pic of a new seedling I started out of Connie Chung, a free seed I got from attitude. It sprouted 3 or 4 days ago but has not shown the leaves yet, it looks like the seed is stuck on the end of it. Should I be worried? How do the Vanilla Kush look? Haven't given them any water since I posted last, gonna wait another day or so and see if the leaves perk up a bit.

Ok they were looking really dry and I did test the soil just now and it was dry underneath so I just gave them a lot of water, around 50ml each. Now I plan on waiting a couple days to water them. The one plant is making me worried because the bottom drooping leaf is turning a little yellow. Also the bigger leaves are curling downward on the sides. Can someone let me know if that other seedling is ok from the pics? It isn't showing leaves yet, just the seed pod. One other question: Is it ok to be misting the plants with a spray bottle full of water?

Hey guys, sorry so long since an update. Transplanted into 2 gallon pots and changed my lighting setup a bit. Now have 4 t8 bulbs and 2 t5's so I have a few more lumens per sq. ft. They are looking pretty good I think, had a couple leafs that were turning brown but I snipped them off. Think it was a lack of nutes and too small of pots which I remedied. What do you guys think?

lookin good brotha, but dont get too caught up in the "lack of nutes" idea. those babies are super small still and dont really need anything but water and light. i wouldnt even give nutes yet if i was you but they def. look healthy so keep up the good work...

Will the browning ever go away or do the leaves stay like that? I am feeding today and I am going half strength from last week on the nutes and hopefully that won't happen again.

Week 5

Things are looking good. They measure around 9-10" tall. Think I will keep vegging until they reach between 24 and 30" tall. My ceilings are under 7 foot so I don't want to grow them too big until I find out how much they will stretch during flowering. U can't decide on what I want to do. Might be too late to start LST, I kind of want to try the SOG method just because it seems really easy to do and clean with having the lower branches removed but I don't want my yield to suffer either. What do you guys think? Should I be topping any time soon? Should I be transplanting into a 4 or 5 gallon pot? Right now they are in 2 gallon pots. Any advice you can give me would be great!

6 Weeks

They are now betweem 11 and 12 inches tall. There is some browning on some parts of a couple leaves and a couple small ones near the bottom are dying. Does this look normal? Maybe its nute burn? Anyways, I think they look pretty good overall even though I think they should be bigger by 6 weeks. Anyways, its my first grow and I am learning a lot. Bought some FF Open Sesame today, thinking about starting that tomorrow. Thoughts?

if you don't have a moisture meter to check the soil, get one.. best 5-10 bucks you will spend.. takes the guess work out of watering..

they can strech like 3 times the size of when u start flowering which means u got to have moe lighting
