Dunno if this is a help but a couple points to make res changes easier if you haven't instigated anything yet.

A small fishtank powerhead with a hose adapter bonded to its outlet is a great way to empty em, lining the res with a quality bin liner before filling more than pays for itself come cleanup time. Pump out as much as you can unclip the bag from the res top (rubber bands work too) and fuck it in the bin.

I use my old nutes to water the garden etc at times to save putting them down the drain.

I used the pump to pump out and then pump in RO before adding new nutes.
After a while of res changeouts and cleaning everything down you'll soon be fookin sick of buckets pails and jugs.

When you say line the rez with a quality bin liner,do you mean a garbage bag?

Yeah, been doing it a long time cause I'm too lazy to clean my res. I still sterilise incase the garbage bag breaks though.

Ive read a couple threads on here and noticed clips on a res or folk saying they do the same.

Seems good ideas are universal :bigjoint:
Yeah that's one of those really smart ideas I'd never think of,then when you hear it it seems so obvious.

Michael in the one pic it looks like the water level in the bucket is just below the pot, if thats the case try lowering the water level in the buckets by putting the buckets up on something, you should have a few inches of water in the bottom of the bucket, it will give you the best results, at the end of the grow it should be one massive root mass from the bottom of the pot to the bottom of the bucket. Depending on how big you grow the full bucket pots may be better, they hold the plant better, but with the small pots for me there only good for one grow the roots get big enough to blow the pot completely apart.
I disagree, water should be right at net pot.Keeps the roots in the top 2/3rd^s of pail away from drain.I grow monsters in my 5 G pails and never have problems with roots clogging.Air stones below push roots up since there floating high in the pail.

Hey man its whatever works right, I agree with you though I like growing big plants, I try to stay 5 -6 feet now but my last ones got away a bit, years and years ago we had a buddy that had a house with cathedral ceilings , some how we got the bright idea to grow a plant in a 5gallon bucket with rez in the middle of his living room to see how big we could get it, I can't remember what it was any more but I think I got it from Breeder Steve anyhow it was like 11 - 12 feet high when we were done, it was massive, those were the good old days, anyhow I like to keep my buckets lower for other reasons, its not an aquatic plant so the roots do grow different to live in the water and the only thing keeping them alive is the air in the water or they will drown,I've always had better results with the bigger air space with either a mister or large air stone to create some humidity, I spin my plants every day 1/4 turn and once a week give them a couple spins in the bucket it keeps the roots in a nice ball. I don't know if I was doing anything wrong but full never worked for me.

I scrogg mine down so opening the lid is a pain, can just lift it enough to get a quick smell. Each method works but if you want to keep roots away from the drain keep the level up.cheers
