1st areogarden grow, help me sex my plants

I had an aerogarden lying around, so I did some research, found this site, and have been reading for a few months. Didn't bother posting for now, cause i really don't have alot of room to grow (in the apt i am in now), and this was kinda more of an experiment to see if i could even do it, before i start putting money into a nice system.

i included a few pics so you can see what i did.

So, seeds were germinated on paper towels, and thrown into the aerogarden on 6/3/09. i have two left alive after getting rid of the ones that weren't growing well.

i used the AG nuets when i threw them in, and then once more two weeks later then i switched to some powdered nuets that you mix with a gallon of water i got off of ebay.

i used 30 - 10 - 10 during veg, and when i switched to flowering i started using 10 -30 -20 . this was as close with the numbers that i have seen in the growing guides that i have found that i could get on the cheap.

the seeds were nothing special, just various ones i have pulled out of different bags i have gotten over the years, so who knows what i am growing. it honestly doesn't matter right now cause again the was to see if i could do it and on the cheap.

the plants are about 12 inches tall now

i just started the 12/12 flowering on 7/25/09, so i'm 5 days into flowering.

when the plants got too tall for the areogarden arm, i cut the arm off with a dremmel, got some dowel and attached it to the back of the areogarden, then ducttaped the light to the dowel, and its working surprisingly well. i have two lights next to it, might add a third stronger, if i can figure out where to fit it in the box.

oh the box is lined with tin foil, shiny side out, and is a box from a giant air conditioner my neighbor gave me. the box is 30 inches tall, so the AG light is 4 inches and the base is 4 inches, so i have 22 inches grow room. it will just have to be enough for this experiment.

i think i have one male and one female, which i will just kill off the male if it is and just let the female go. when i'm done i'll start over with new seeds, i don't have enough room for cloning etc right now.

so, help me out, i think plant #1 is a male, and either plant #2 is a female, or i need another day or two to see.

sure hope its a she!

also, i did veg these 2 months from seed, 18/6 light cycle, do i need to veg them that long, or would a shorter period work?

pictures are as follows
1 - full setup
2 - just a comparison of size with my hand
3- overhead shot
4-8 plant #1
9 plant #2

EDIT: Oh, and THANK YOU for your time and help!

I do think after 10 to 13 days it will show sex after you induce 12/12 flowering schedule.

If it looks like little footballs coming out. They are Male. 2 little antenna things mean its female. They have a few diagrams on these forums some where.

oh that's awesome, thank you so much. that's perfect. so i gotta wait another say 5 - 10 days at this point.

do you know how long it takes before the males start dropping pollen? i think i'm going to have about a 2 month flowering period (unless they just get way to big for the box and i'll have to just go from there)

main reason is because from about day 8 of flowering till day 14 of flowering i'm going to be out of town, and have a neighbor watering them.... i don't wanna have to leave him with the decision of killing off a male, these are my babies! hah

i should be ok with that time frame, killing the male if there is one on like the 15-16th day?

ya man i think you will be fine on letting them go that long.....be careful about who knows about your garden....and from the pictures ide say u might be burning them with nutes or over watering them....the yellow around the edges makes me belive that its prob a nute problem...flush with just water for a few feedings and then see what happends...but really they only need water like once ever 2-3 days especily if the temps in ur grow box are 75-80 but u seem to know whats going on if u got them this far!!!

temp never goes above about 82, night cycles, its about 76 or so?

i did over nute them at one point, flushed, i think the yellowing left is just from that time.

i haven't lost many leaves at this point, i have been pruning the ones that turn all yellow and die off, they seem to grow another set at that point.

me and my neighbor are the only ones who knows so i'm good there :)

It is very apparent, funny there are so many questions. Just make sure you switched ag nutes. Some are high in N and will F it up in Fing. Fing being flowering and not sexing...what sucks about AG is roots get all tied up and when u removed the males u r dammed cause if you leave the roots its likely the Res. tank will get rotten, if you try to remove the roots you damage the ones you wanna keep. I think this and the pump need to be improved. That or folks need to spend the cheese to get fem lowriders. Then these problems don't matter. Oneway to help it is to spin the pods every day. But the whole deal behind the machine is automation so.....i give it 3.5 stars.
