192W T5 grow

Hello everyone,

I'm relatively new to this forum but not to growing my own medicine. My current setup is a sun-systems 8 tube T5 grow light. The bulbs are rated at 24W each so that gives me 192W total. i recently moved and had to get rid of my setup (600W MH/HPS). I had great results with that setup but due to unfortunate circumstances had to sell it. When i moved into my new place ( my buddy's house ) and was getting the grand tour of the house I happened to notice the sun systems T5 setup sitting in the corner of the attic NOT BEING USED!!!! After a little coaxing I convinced him that we should take advantage of this unused setup ( trust me it didn't take much to convince him that we should start using it, being a fellow ganja lover and all ).

After about a week or so of trying to track down some good genetics ( which by the way are really hard to come by here in my hometown of Boston ) I finally found a buddy who buys/sells extremely fine cannabis who had some seeds to get rid of. He gave me 4 of each of the following strains- Jack Herer, OG Kush, Super Lemon Haze. Should they actually be what he says they are remains to be seen ( around my area people are likely to say that they have reputable strains just to sell a bag ) but with no other sources i have to trust him for now.

I germinated all of them and ended up with 4 OG Kush, 2 Super Lemon Haze, and 1 Jack Herer. They were about a month old when i decided to put 3 OG Kush and and 2 Super Lemon Haze into flowering underneath the T5 setup and have been in flowering for a week. I put the remaining OG Kush and Jack Herer into another room under 40W of fluorescents and and set them up as mothers.

I guess really im just curious if anyone out there has used this 8 bulb T5 setup before and if so what where the results?

I used a t5 8 bulb 4 footer, 54 watts each total of 432 watts. I flowered two plants and got about 3 zips, you should really scrog if your using T5s through flower, (wish i did) otherwise its not worth it imo. I've seen t5 scrog journals where people get as much as 8 zips.

I only use my t5 for veggin now though, upgraded to 1k hps.

I have a SOG going now with a 2 foot 8 bulb t5-15 in hempy 2L bottles.I am about a month into flower and am just loving the results.Coming from a 600 hps before this due to personal reasons and have no complaints.As the other poster said though, scrog or sog.

not my grow, but I use T5HOs as well, tho for Veg only, but I have a feeling I will try to use my 6x49W 5ft fixture like this one day


EDIT: and I must agree with the above post, scrog is the way to go with tube`s or any fluorescent in my opinion

thanks guys..... i hap-hazardly rushed into this and am def going scrog next time, i have never done a scrog before but have literally spent the past two weeks researching it lol. i know that im not going to get much off this first round and i know for sure scrog will double or maybe triple my yield if done properly.......

Yeah I use my 4 bulb 216 watt T5 for veg and flowering until I am able to upgrade my setup. This is only my second round of plants ever but this time I decided to LST and the difference is definitely noticeable thus far.

yes LST is great, and do more or less the same as a scrog, you just have more work to do

as you bend the main steam down you make the plant redirect its hormones to the side shoots, they will then grow up and try to take over and you end up with multiply top`s

like this from a old grow been under T5HOs for 7-8 weeks and is ready for the 600W HPS



each top wont get as big as if you had one main steam, maybe only 1/3 but wilt 8-12 top`s .. well you do the math

Don't take it wrong man, you'll still grow some bomb buds. I love my T5s, just shit for light penetration so its best to have an even canopy with the scrog method. Best way to yield decent with em.

It sounds like you are growing too many plants under that light. I think you are talking about a 2x2 fixture, and if this is the case you won't have enough lumens or spread to cover 7 plants. I use an 8 lamp VHO with 4' bulbs and I can only grow 6 in 3 gal pots. You probably will need supplemental lighting to deal with that amount of plants. Good luck.
