Do you have the equivalent of craigslist.org there? Used stuff cheap?

There are no real budget places in europe, only minor savings from what I have seen at best.

I don't want to get above ~75$ But I think I'll need to... Something like this would do the job but it's ~105$

Try googling UK industrial lighting. I found a few places pretty quick. No prices as cheap as econolight, but I bet you will find HPS lighting cheaper than the hydo stores. Low wattage HPS is becoming more and more available on this side of the pond for all applications. I'm sure you can find something cheap but worthwhile.

good luck

All over the world HID's are being replaced with big cfl's in industrial applications to save electricity and go green.

Call a couple lighting contractors and see what used surplus they have or ask where to find them. Shouldn't be too hard to track down a few thousand lights that way. :)

Ok but what about those 50w LEDs? Like this one, it says that it's a 200w HID equivalent, it's a bit pricey but the power consumption is low, would it work in a 70cm x 50cm (27.5" x 20") place? I'd really like this one

Another option u can try is to source directly from the supplier ... most of the budget HPS systems are MADE in china...and u will find that walmart or home depot or wotever is only a retail outlet for some HUGE oem manufacturer in china... if you get enough people together...i wouldnt be surpirsd youll be able to get some good deals direct from manufacturer.... Try Alibaba.com or something similiar to that...and i wouldnt discount led's but a the current price..ud be looking at way more than the same Yield/effect of a cheaper HID option... i am a firm believer that if you get the right LEDS, and enough wattage of LEDS..youll be able to outdo HPS some day...as in G/Watt consumed ratio...
