13 year old weed still good!

After years of not growing, I started again back in 2009 outdoors when it became legal. Bought clones of different strains and had up to 12 plants in pots in the side yard. Anyway, I jarred them all up, and put one jar of each strain in the back of the freezer in my refrigerator. For shits and giggles last night I dug out a Kardashian Kush and chopped up some bud to roll. It smelled ok and the texture was fine. Smoked a joint and got pretty stoned! I'm really surprised and will now store this year's strains in the freezer. Jars I've had elsewhere seem to only be good for storing a year or so in like a closet or something. Weed turns brown, smells funny and loses a lot of potency

Storing in a freezer will significantly slow or almost stop degradation of the weed.

I was surprised, I figured freezing would slow down degradation but not for this long. Going to vacuum seal this year's and some of last year's harvest and stuff 'em in there

Yea it will decarb itself after a year or so I have some from last year in canning jar that looks like I decarbed in oven. Smells good tho.

I'm curious if you stored your jar in the dark?
I found a few jars that were ~2 years old and it was still excellent. The color was less vibrant but it didn't turn brown like decarb.
A few friends actually seemed to prefer the "aged" versions over the fresh stuff for whatever reason.
Mine were stored in a cool basement within a cabinet if that matters.

Yea in dark but in a closet maybe because your's were in basement. It's more of golden color on my Jack herer

Ok so I saw this feed and it reminded me of some stuff (by stuff I mean stash), and Dboybud, you have been kind with answers thus far….so anywho long story short I found 3 - 4 lr C vaults full of blue dream and a 1/2 dozen glass jars of tangerine. They look like the spent time next to the turkey and feel crispier than Popeyes … would you give it a go? 3-4 yrs in a dark space in air tight condition..

Definitely try it and if smokeable I would grind as much as you want for kief since so dry and use it for concentrate or tincture, Edibles

While freezing can extend the shelf-life of your cannabis significantly, it does not stop the aging process completely. Over time, the potency and quality may still degrade, but much slower than at room temperature. Happy growing and storing!
