1200w work lights

Hey all, i was at lowes yesterday and i saw they have a shop light with 2 600w bulbs, its a 1200w system, heres what it is, Amazon.com: Designers Edge Pro-Series Two-Light 1200-Watt Halogen 2-N-1 Work Light with Tripod #L-5302: Home Improvement it says 2 600w halogen lights, will this grow a plant?

it'll burn it before it grows it.

what if its going to be in a not heated basement with a fire place that i can pull outside air from in the winter? and does halogen bulbs have a good enough light spectrum to grow? im going to research this to see. maybe theres special grow bulbs for halogen. idk.

no there too hot and not worth the effort, i dont even think the lite is the rite spec. but i cud be wrong.

Could you swap out the halogen bulbs with HPS ones?

yeah dude, HID bulbs are very "picky" for lack of a better word.. unless your a light-goon and an electrician and not afraid of terrible misfortune, i would NOT reccomend doing any experiments with ghetto-rigging an HID.. just buy the ballast (or even just the components), bulb and socket, and rig the hood if you want to save money...

thats what im trying to do at least, please dont be a fool.. plus halogens are tinies.. If you want to save money, id probably reccomend cfls or used gear..

I didnt mean rewiring and fiddling, I meant is there bulbs that would fit, I've seen MH's for cars and small HPS bulbs so I figured you may be able to change them.

why dont u just buy an hps setup man ?

obviously u have enough money to run that stuff, and you dont care about heat.... so go for HPS!

DWR is right. you need an hps kit. DO NOT BUY USED BULBS, the ballast yeah ok, but not the bulbs. Once they run through their 8,000 hours or whatever, they're useless and plants will simply not grow anymore. Halogen light are no good!,, unless you need light to read a book.

Halogen lights too much red in spectrum, too much infra-red(heat!) I have seen them tried. they do NOT work and are a waste of money for growing. Invest in MH or HPS lighting, even if only 250W. Good luck with your grow.

why dont you plug your dick in the wall and see if it lights up

The work lights will provide more than enough light, but they give off hella heat, If you are absolutely set on using them, place them a good 3-4 feet from the plants.
