Any chance that you would have some pics of these grows?
Sorry you'll just have to take my word. I have a no image policy, I had a really bad legal experience with the Overgrow investigation. Until it's federally legal to cultivate I will not post images of cannabis. But in a few weeks when I'm not using the lights will do an inside parts comparisons.

Right on bro - no telling what a photo is from anyways.
I am still reeling from the take down of Overgrow. That big NSA building off the beltway in DC is recording my typing right now.

I also had two full grows with the Mars II 700 and they did my Space Jill the way my newer panels did, but with more heat, noise, power consumption and less penetration. I never did a side by side with Black Dog but would be hard pressed to believe the diff would be justified on day to day performance alone. We don't work hard at this with a day to day strategy, so Mars II and other similar cheap lights are not worth it. Its the reliability issue I am concerned with, that and all the issues when the problems do arise. Performance is the same like I said, but for how long? I just didn't want the anxiety. People don't want to hear it but the safety, turnaround time for any repairs, talking easily and with good response time to a US based company - all these things make the few extra duckies worth it.

And what's a suitable REPLACEMENT FOR A 1000w HID
in a 4 x 4ft Tent??
I may have missed it, but why are you considering replacement of your HID? If it's to reduce power costs, the chinese epi-whatever fixtures (they use Epistar LEDs which have little quality control) will use a little more electricity to produce the same results. You'll have to spend serious money on efficient fixtures like Area 51, Onyx, or building your own COBs (look at the threads on this forum to learn more about that).

The payback time can be 2-3 years. Depends on your cost for electricity, how much you spend to cool your space (probably not much in the north of england?).
