11/13 & 13/11 vs 12/12 Flower Times:

Yes, 12/12 is tried and true. "if it aint broke don't fix it" etc.

However in the name of science - One can ponder, research, experiment and discuss to tap into the differentiations, pros and cons with different light cycles

On this note i've scavenged this forum for most information but it's reasonably scattered/un answered - I'm also relatively new but regardless if any info here is incorrect by your knowledge or otherwise, by all means speak up and contribute to the thread!

Starting with 11 On/ 13 Off



*Dj Shorts Info - 11/13 is Better used for breeding on Sativas/phenos which prefer environmental conditions near the equator?/tropical conditions, for bringing out unique characteristics

*Copied, Cannabis is classified as a 'short day' plant as it is concerned with its photoperiods. There are: (short day) (long day) & (day neutral). Although we call them 'short day' plants it is somewhat of a misnomer. The day-light length has no effect on the flowering mechanisms of plants. We call them 'short day' plants, but they actually require a LONG NIGHT. The trigger for any and all plants that require a specific photoperiod is only the dark period. I have ran several trials on Cannabis to show this first hand. The typical axis point is 9-9.5 hours of dark, some cultivars (cv.) require more. the larger majority of cv. are well into a safe zone at 11 hours.


*Growmies experience/Forwarded Research - 11/13 can be used either in weeks 2-4 in attempts to negotiate those stubborn phenos/girls, or in the final weeks 8-9-10+ to speed up the flower cycle

Pros:

- Can bring out unique strain variables
- Can Speed up Flower Time
- Minus 1 hour per day of electricity i guess

Cons

- Reduced Yields
- Not guaranteed to benefit every pheno if im understood?

13 On 11 Off

More Light = More Bud
Less Dark = Longer Flower time

Honestly haven't found more on 13 on and 11 off as a general, more just a quick read on sativa dominants.

If anyone can add to this for my sake and others it would be great!

I do intend on experimenting as i go down the road and adding to this obviously, but if anyone has any experience i'd love to hear about it as well!

I typically go with 11/13 because in the past I've had issues with a sativa strain not flowering at 12/12.....the strain just seems to need that extra hour of darkness to trigger flower mode....I guess I've continued with 11/13 just because I'm a creature of habit

That first picture isn’t really relevant because he used different lights.

I think the differences noted are related much more to type of light.





This is an interesting topic though, it would cool to see a bunch of clones run side by side under the same light/conditions and see what happens.

what about this veg cycle of doing 12 on, 5.5 off, 1 on, 5.5 off? anyone tried it? supposed to be a hack for explosive veg/root production AND saves on power. cant find many people talking about it though

The way these new “breeders” are putting strains out the only thing explosive coming from that will probably be pollen sacks on your ladies.

I run 11/13 for a lil bit of power saving, and I've noticed that seed grown plants show "budlets" a lil bit sooner. Clones almost no discernable difference.

Although I though it was more for maintaining or extending the veg stage.

Tried it and SAVE your time. Seriously. If it worked huge commercial grows would be doing it.

I use a 12/12 schedule and add far red light end of day (EOD) for 5 minutes pre and post lights out to jump start the sleep cycle. In my experience, 12/12 with far red EOD is shortening the flowering cycle at the expense of some yield. For typical 9-10 week strains probably not worth the yield loss but for those long sativas I think it is worth it. If you want more daylight hours, a friend uses a 13.5/10.5 schedule with the far red EOD with good success on hybrids.
