COuld 11/11 work for flowering to make the process go faster or does it have to be 12/12 could It be 11:45/11:45??? just wondering if it will work

you shouldn't cut the dark time. If you want to shorten though you can do less light hours, but you will need a digital timer to set up a good schedule, or just build your entire life schedule around turning your lights on and off. Not sure what this does to your yields as I have never tried it myself.

i remember an article in Red Eye Magazine which reckoned you can get shorter flowering times by making 13 dark/11 light, but you get less weed. The conclusion was do what suits ya, commercial or sweet sweet bud

usually id say go for it.. but for flowering, you really dont wanna cut the amount of time that they get light.. only because this period is the most beneficial, but idk, do what you feel is best.. just make sure to take pics :-D:peace:

12/12 is a good starting point but it's almost always not optimal. Each strain has whats called a critical night length. Which is the time the plant need to be in the dark for robust flowering. During the dark period the plants go into an entirely different mode of growth and produce "hormones" which build up in the plants tissue, a plants genetics determine what length of darkness is needed for enough "hormones" to be produced to trigger and maintain proper flowering. The benefit of knowing the strains critical night length is that it's generally well understood that the more light a plant receives the more energy is has to build new tissue with. If your genetics only require 10-11 hours of darkness to properly flower, the extra 1-2 hours of light can be significant. Anyone who's grown outside in many parts of the world will have noticed that plants start to flower when the nights are still much shorter then 12 hours. Just about all strains will flower at 12 hours and 12/12 is very common. I've found that using the proper critical night length won't slow down maturity times as some might believe and should increase yield. With this in mind a nice trick is to increase the night length at the end of flowering to increase the "hormone" levels and to further force the plant to maturity. Personally I think beginners should stick to 12/12, you need to be sensitive to the plant and having to wonder if your giving it enough darkness isn't any fun. Though its rare that a plant needs 12/12 it tends to be a happy medium that most strains do pretty well with. However if you know your strain, using these techniques will likely increase your yields.

Not true, I just read that you don't have to have your plants on the 24 hours schedule. It was actually on this site. I can't recall who posted but it is here. I wasn't real clear on the guys times and schedule, but he stated that he didnt veg the standard 18/6 or 24/0. I think he vegged like 12/6, and it does make sense knowing that plants can only use 16-18 hours of light effectively. Which goes right in hand with the plant only being able to use those 16-18 hours of light. so anything beyond 18 hrs of light is in that sense wasteful and useless.

Well you dont have to use 24hrs for a day if u got a light if you saying more light helps produce more buds 13/11 sounds good but idk if it will work

It stands to reason that if you go to 12/12 and get your buds started, then cut 1/2 an hour off the lit time weekly until you hit some target time, say 13 hrs. dark/11 hours lit, THEN reversed the process and added 1/2 an hour until you reach yet another target, say 10 and 1/2 off . . . 13 and 1/2 on, then it seems the plant would react by hurrying to produce before too much light reverted it back to veg naturally. Kinda like emulating the passing of a season. Of course, temperatures then might come into play.

If you're doing it indoors you could technically create your own world for your plants and even go to the extremes of altering the average day to say 10 hours of light and 10 hours of darkness, making the day for your individual world 20 hours, not 24.

Now theres skepticalism about what this will do for your plants, if anything. It could increase the growth, decrease the flowering time, or your plants may not be able to take the stress and could die. Everything evolves based on its environmental factors, so theorically you could evolve your own cannabis strain to specifically grow under certain light conditioners, say 8 hours of darkness and 8 hours of light, but it would take so long, maybe longer than a lifetime for a single breeder, to change the genetic code to allow it.
