1000w vs. 600w

Actually 6" from a 1000w. Bulb (cheap 140000 lumen bulb) is 178,254 lumens psf.

600 watt HID's are the most efficient watt to lumen. If someone wanted to go with 1000 watts I would push the extra 200 watts for 2x 600w HPS.

I have a 1000w hps and I like the finished product better than what the 600w would get me. I think its mostly personal preference but a friend of mine grew the same clones under a 1000w and two 600w at the same time and he got a few more ounces off the 1000 and thats 200 watts less. but who knows.. maybe it was luck :bigjoint:either way your gonna have some killer weed

Its because of the inverse light law or whatever its called. For example if a 1000 watt 18 inches away and a 600 watt 12 inches away at the canopy they have the exact same light measurement but the 600 light output decreases faster the furthur away because of the inverse square light law.

I have no experience with a 600 or a 1000 been rockin a 400 and i can get max 10 inch penetration into a thick canopy. I would go straight to a 1000 if i had the choice because i can see so clearly at a lower wattage how fast artificial light reduces after it goes thru a few leaves.

Every amount of light has its optimum plant area it can cover... There is no way he grew less bud with more lumens unless he didn't use all 185,000 lumens to full potential that two 600's push. A 1000 watt will easily penetrate more but two 600's cover more area. Just sayin....

IMO it's just a matter of personal preference. Of course 2 600w will put out more lumens than 1x1k, it's 200 more W. What happens if you compare 2x1000w vs 3x600w? The 1000's cover a bigger footprint 5x10 vs 4x12, and put out more lumens with the same 200w advantage the 6's have in the 2v1 argument.

It just boils down to the setup and personal preference. I'd personally rather fire 2x1000w than 2x600w.

You say theres no way but I seen it with my own eyes.. and yes the 1000w will easily penetrate more..

Three 600w HPS lights (1800watts), with the right bulbs, would produce the same amount of lumens that two 1000watt HPS' would put out for 200watts less my man.
I'll repeat; 600 watt HPS lights are the most efficient HID, watt to lumens.

I agree. 600w are more efficient. True statement and a Corolla is also more efficient than a Ferrari,does that mean it's a better car? See, it's all about what you are trying to achieve. 1000w lights are brighter, they grow bigger, they grow quicker, they use more juice. I'll take the Ferrari.

Haha also, distance from canopy is often misunderstood.
Hoods effect the area your light is covering (focusing light) and if your in a reflective area, than you can raise lights hgher without greatly affecting overall w/sqft or lumens or whatever makes ya happy :)

Obviously 4 400's beats 2 600's... haha. 3x 400watts (1200) vs 2x 600watts (1200)....the 600's would have more lumens, therefore more energy.

I use 2 1000 watts but sometimes wish I had tried using 4 600 watt for better coverage. The plants directly under my bulbs always do better and outgrow the others.

When I get into a more long term location I am going to try light movers.
