Hi everyone, Ive been growing successfully since back in September, I was using one 1000W HPS for budding and 1 1000W MH for Veg, I recently switched it so i have the 1000W HPS and MH in the same room and CFLs for VEG, well its been good til today, i went down to the room and only the MH was on! I also noticed a werid noise, come to find out its coming from the HPS ballast. I can't describe it but it iinda sounds like how it runs with no bulb in it, I can't test the HPS in the other ballast as its a MH ballast but the MH bulb is a conversion si can test it in the HPS (its worked before) but i didn't want to interupt the light cycle, wait for the bulb to cool down and stuff as i was short for time so i figured i'd ask the experts here, Is it my Bulb or my ballast? or is it something else, this really really sucks i just built the hood for both bulbs and everything

Thanks

well some ballasts have a safety device built in which turns the light off when it gets too hot,,,,same thing happened to me and i thought i needed a new ballast but after a few hours of letting the ballast cool down,i plugged it back in and the light came back on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,peace

6mos for a 1000 is actually pretty good. you should have replaced it at 8mos regardless if it would have made it...

yea thats true I didnt even think of that, at first I thought it was all bs, but when I added a second light the 3 month old bulb looked soo not bright next top the new one, now I put it on my calandar to switch about every 3 months. but I dont think they should die being only 6 months just have lost alot of intensity.

I've always had problems with 1000 watts. Unless you got them hooked up to 240 outlets there always burning out and get so fucking hot. There just a fire hazard in my opinion. I just think 600watts and 400watts are the way to go.
