1000 watts MH per how many plants

How many plants do you think i should put under a 1000 watt metal halide? is it too much that it would roast the plants in a 5 x 9 ft closet? I was told i should think about CFLs...

5x9, is plenty big enough for a 1000w

you can kkep those cool with a fan or two blowing around,or go with a Squirrel cage vented throughout,that'll keep it cool.

Air cooled hoods or cool tubes. You can get more then one light in there if done right. I am thinking 3 like someone earlier said. You just have to do your math, and build out your room properly. Remember when you were sitting in math class, and you asked the teacher "when am i ever going to use this in life"? Well is seems that she/he knew what the fuck they were talking about huh?

Depending on you ambient temps you may need AC for that light if your air cooling isnt enough.
