100% STEALTH 1st grow, need some advice.

Hey guys, I have just completed building my first cab after hours and hours upon work and atleast 10 runs to walmart, home depot, target, and lowes .

The cabs dimensions are 32" high, 27" wide, and 12" deep. I am currently test running the setup with the following lights: 1 42 watt 2700k, one 46 watt 2700k, 2 23 watt 6500ks, and 2 23 watt 2700ks ( Total of 180 actual watts folks) . I set up a 4 inch passive intake at the bottom of my cab and installed a 120mm cpu fan saudering wire connected to a 80mm fan for maximum airflow through my DIY carbon scrubber using pencil holders.

I am germinating right now but am currently running a test run with my thermo to see what temps i can expect. I am currently sitting at 92 degrees and it seems to be steady. I just added a cup full of ice cubes and froze a few blocks in ziploc tupperware ill throw in tommorow to see how much I can drop it. I also currently have my 90 elbow 4 inch passive intake hooked up pointing upwards, I'm pretty sure I should go back and place it pointing down or to the sides, thoughts?

If anyone has ideas how to get my temps down to a steady 83-85 degrees that would be great, I'm also going to be getting a small oscilating fan from walmart in the next few days to maximize airflow. The cab currently resides tucked in my closet and is completely sound proof. I need to work on light proofing but it shouldn't be too big of a deal, It's in a closet and I threw a towel over it temporarily and its 100% concealed.

The seeds I'm germinating right now are 4 bagseeds from some local dank, I'm using the paper towel method and hoping two will pop, as thats all I have room for. I have 2 three gallon pots with foxfarms ocean forest in there with my lights about 3" above the pots and the thermo DIRECTLY under the lights. I also forgot to add I was planning on adding mylar but don't think my cab can take that added temp as it is and I figure I should yield well enough with that much wattage on 1, hopefully 2 females if I'm lucky.

Ill keep you guys posted with pics to come soon, Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

you said you threw a towel over your box. this could be the reason the temp is so high IF it is covering either of the fans..post up some pics of the cabinet if you can.. i have a stealth cabinet grow going too..check out my sig and let me know if you have any questions..good luck bro

Thanks for the advice, but I dont think the towel is the problem. I had temps from 90-94 without the towel and now im steady at 91 or 92 with 36% humidity. Ill definately check out your grow, leme know if you got any more tips.

Oh and the fans aren't covered at all, they both are on the exterior of the box attached to a DIY scrubber which, if anything, could be the main reason the temp is so high, airflow is decent but could b much better.

hmm.yeah the carbon filters could definetely be the problem..you really wont need them until flowering anyways, consider taking them off for now?? ...180 watts of light is kind of alot especially if your plants arent even matured yet.. i suggest removing a few bulbs and seeing how the temps get., if they drop alot then theres your problem.. you could always add an extra fan or two

We have the same target grow box ;) Mine has yet to have mylar, and very well might never have mylar, although I can add some if the temps are dropped after i disconnect my two 40+ watt bulbs for the time being, I have some 27 watters to play with later on with aswell.

yeah dude your temps will definetely drop if you remove a few of those bulbs.. you dont need all that wattage for seedlings anyways.. and hell yah bro i love these cabinets lol perfect size in my opinion..keep me posted on your temps man lemme know if you have any other questions

Box itself is 35$ at target.

Everything I've put into it- Lights, power strip, dc adapter, light fixtures, soil etc. has cost me around 100$ or so. With some patience and general DIY skills, these boxes aren't much to setup at all, about 135$ total ;)

^ weather seal at walmart = 3 bucks, good stuff. 2 23w or 1 46w is ideal for your seedling and it will lower your temps, when your plants starts to grow and mature it will soak up a lot of the light and heat and drop your temps.(without my plant in the cab my temps soar to 95f+ and with the plant in drops to 76f) I would also recommend swapping the 2700k for 6500k bulbs unless you plan on 12/12 from seed, 6500k is ideal for the veg stage. Make sure your outtake is strong enough to blow a good amount of air out of the DIU carbon filter, I have the same one. Gonzo works great to rid of the veg odor = 5bucks at home depot. Its a good idea to have 1 intake blowing on the lights and top of the plant and another intake at the bottom of the cab for the coldest air in your closet, outtake above your lights... anyways I hope that helps, and it sounds pretty cool man I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Thanks for the contribution freebird, solid advice. As of today 30 hours have pasted with my 4 bagseeds in a damp papertowl inside a ziploc and no germination whatsoever. I have since (aprox an hour ago) put the ziploc container under my current light setup which is 2 23 watt 2700k and 2 23 watt 6500k.

I have decided not to use any 6500ks, Im broke and this is what I have- I dont think results will be too different especially with how Ill be growing.

My plan is to veg for 3 weeks (or to 7 inches tall) while LSTing, then throw it into flower for the next 60 days. Need to harvest a smoke quick as Ill be accepting a very high paying job that drug tests randomly often in the near future.

Also, heat rises so if you have an exhaust vent at the top of the cab might help??

couple things:

1) Your passive intake should be larger than your fan exhaust.
2) If you just put filters over the exhaust then that is your problem. You should not feel any back pressure from the intake side of the fan. use this design for your carbon filter.

That should bring down your temps.

If you're going to grow in your closet you can forget about getting the temps down to 85 in that box. I say take out some lights and get an active intake and two exhaust fans if you aren't at least keeping the door open.
