10/14 lighting in the last 3 weeks.

I read about this and decided to give it a try. I had my plants flowering 12/12 for about 4 weeks and then switched to 11/13 for a week and then started 10/13 a few days ago to simulate the upcoming fall season. I can tell you, im noticing a difference already. The buds are starting to swell up a bit more and resin production is starting to boom. Of course, i think the buds have already reached their yield potential and are just finishing up...

I also heard that you can turn your lights out completely for the last 2 weeks and it will increase resin production hugely (particularly with White Widows) ... However I've never tried any of these alternate lighting methods so I don't know if any of them ACTUALLY work hahaha.

Cheers all.

Damn... There are so many conflicting posts in this thread. Heres my take after reading this entire thread:

A majority if not all of the "turn the lights off for the last two days/weeks... " and "10/14" claims have all been second hand statements. There has been only one person "comercial" who actually posted after trying it himself.

For the guys on the other end, saying to stay at 12/12 "its the tried and true method"... Ever wonder how scientific advancements are made? Experimentation!

From what I personally have read, and grown first hand, the plant does its production during the light period, and little to none during the night. To me, it would seem logical that if your going to make any alteration to a light cycle, it would have to be increasing the light hours of the plant. As someone posted a video of earlier, some growers are using 14 hours of light, while still maintaining the 12 hour dark-period needed to continue to induce flowering.

Now that i said all that, my question is: Has anyone tried altering their light cycle in the way i just mentioned, increasing the light hours? I have heard you can run a cycle such as 12 off / 18 on / 12off... What do you guys think, theoretically it seems like it could help, more hours of light = more growth while still mainting that critical 12 hour dark-period.

i heard give it 24 hrs of darkness the day or u should say night before harvest and she will put out more resin production

Thats the point i was trying to make, everyone has heard of some random trick that will "inrease resin production" or "make your buds explode with resin"... but i cant find one person who has tried it and had success. On the contrary, i can find someone "comercial", who has tried it and said he would not try it again.

What about some of the posts that talk about extending the light period the last two weeks... the plant is committed to flowering and you give it more light right before harvest... what do you think?

See, were on a similar page, I saw a video of some guy at "THC labs" talking about uping the light cycle to 14hours of light in the last week or so. I have always heard rumors that you could run a cycle such as 12on/18off/12on in the last few weeks of flowering. It seems logical to me because you are still maintaining that 12 hour dark stint which triggers the flower production, while giving the plant access to an extra day of light in one weeks time. On my very first grow, in soil, i gave my plants 24hrs of light for the last 2 days and it didnt hurt anything, cant say it helped much, but it was a nice looking crop.

Anybody every tried increasing the light during the flowing period? I am always looking for ways to improve my setup.

i went from 12/12 to 10/14 on friday. seems to be speeding up abit, she has started pumping out crystals on the buds.

this makes sense in nature the days grow shorter towards winter
Thats true, but nature isn't trying to get high. Nature isn't trying to make you buds bigger, or more potent.

Nature just wants to reproduce (dirty bugger), so this doesn't really prove anything.

Peace :peace:

Shorter light periods will increase the growth speed, but the potency will not be any greater, and the yield will be alot lower.:blsmoke:
