1 or many plants?

Howdy,

I have been growing for about 5 years and have grown one plant per light since
the beginning. This is what I learned through youtube at the time, a lot of people
were doing this. Recirculating DWC and one plant per light, SCROG 1.2m x 1.2m.

Maybe wanting to try something different, a lot of the videos i see now are
growers jam packing as many plants as they can into an area and grow them straight up
maybe topping a few times.

Asking what peoples opinions are before I go buy heaps of new pots/hoses ect.

What would be the pro's/con's of 1 plant per light against say 4 or 8 plant per light?

Cons of the 1 per light are currently grow time, I keep topping ect so veg time is literally
5/6 weeks as the plant stalls every time I stress it. Another would be when I grow from seed
sometimes that seed isn't healthy and the plant grows badly. Pro's are only need one big container
per light, less leaks if any + more room to move around underneath the screen.

Are more plants any better than the one if anyone has any insight please.

Examples below.

Thank You

I would stick with fewer plants. Less chance of issues. Are you describing SOG? Fill the space with plants, don't top and grow one main cola?

I was describing just a few more plants in the 1.2 x 1.2m screen, topped only a few times.. instead of the 25-ish times I top currently for the one plant, I don't know if that's still a scrog or not. I thought of SOG but way too many plants.

Pic with more plants wasn't the right one I changed it.

Cheers for the input

I top 3 times early for 8 main branches. Anymore than that requires a longer veg to get BIG buds. I also supercrop. Both OCD at this point. Good luck!

If you’re starting from seed either way, a pro of having more plants would be pheno selection. You probably have a clone though, I’m guessing. If from seed, I’d shoot to get atleast 5 females going to choose from

Alot of the pros getting 3 per light (1000w) they grow 2 to 3 under scrog. I'm in the same boat as you. I use 600 watters. Next run going for 3 plants per light still with decent veg time (maybe a month, rather than 2 months) the way I looked at it is how many indoor plants yield over a pound under a 600w?? Just seems more doable to me only needing 6 ozs a plant.

The other reason is if something happens to that 1 plant e.g.. root rot, then you haven't lost it all!!

Yeah I use the 630 CMH hoods/bulbs I mainly get between 800ish/1KG per, really depends on the genetics. That's another thing
that's super annoying.. I'll get a pack of say 6 seeds same strain from reputable seed bank and they all seem to want
to grow differently.

You are definitely spot on with if something happens to the one plant.. Not often but sometimes things go wrong and I only get 500g per
630 CMH.

That's a great yield! Up to 1kg!! I use regular hps, sometimes throw in a little mh lighting for a wider spectrum. I've heard of people getting good yields with cmh. How do you compare cmh to hps??

Well I only ever used to get max around 0.8 - 1 gram per watt with the 600hps.. so for an extra 30 watts you can add
quite a bit extra weight.. plus the CMH has a great spectrum.. I was doing mh all veg and 2 weeks into flower then
switched to hps.. Was truly getting over it so just went with the CMH bulb. HPS is to the lighting industry what DVD is
to the video industry, if you know what I mean.

Also should mention all amounts above are CO2 enriched up to 1800ppm.

I grow this way. Last run was 5 plants topped once each in a 3x3. Vegged for 8-10 days total, topped right after they’ve become acclimated to their new home, flipped as soon as they bounce back from topping.
