ok.... so if i wanna grow 4 plants in a 5foot tall 4 foot wide/depth box.. im just confused about how many cfls... i was thinking 4x 26w and 4x 65w.. first for veg, then seconds for flowering.. is this too much heat?? im not really sure of the amount of lumens in those.. i wanna find a conversion chart or something.

i found this equation.... find the square footage of your grow box... multiply it by the amount of lumens. then divide that by the square footage of your box. and u get ur lumens per square foot... 7000-10000 lumens per square foot for 1 good plant?

i got everything else down.. just wanna know if i got the wattages right

this is SO easy to answer. regardless of any and all conditions. Get 1 bulb for each seedling. Add more as they grow. It's that simple. Don't overcomplicate it. The plants will tell you how many you need as they grow. The numbers you referred to are general guidelines. Its not an exact science like that lol.
Start small add more when the plants get bigger. How many more depends on how much bigger. You have the opportunity to CUSTOMIZE your grow.
"is that too much heat?" You won't know untill you get there. Too many other yet to be detemined factors. Trust me when i say stay flexible. Set your lights up so they are easy to move. If you have them close enough, you'll have to raise and/or reposition them everyday. (not at first but once they get going)
I hope that helps some. And good luck with grow.
ohh 1 more thing....Do NOT underestimate the importance of PH!!! Peace.

I use 4x42 watt and 10x26 watt on one plant, 19 inches tall 17 iches wide, bushy as hell, works good unless you are tryin to grow more than one strain at a time, then i would go with the multiple plants, if not, grow one big one:bigjoint:

yeah ok.. and its definitely not too much... if anything not enough.. thinking of doing 6 each. 2 on each plant.
Two CFL's per plant will work for the 1st few weeks, then the plant will be bigger and want more. Obviously it wont yet need 14 bulbs, but if you let it get big enough sure you could use 14 or more it depends on your plants. A cfl's light is only strong enough within about 6 inches. So if your plant is 12 inches tall even if you have 10 CFL's above it, the bottom of the plants is NOT getting light really. The size and shape of the plant will determine how many lights and where you should put them. Sativas are tall and will need more light. Indicas are short and wont need as much.
LST is a VERY good way to keep good light proximity with the fewest # of bulbs. keep the plant short and squatt and the top and bottom of the plant are BOTH within an acceptable distance from the light bulb. IMO anyone growing indoors with CFL's should be doing LST.

well.. yeah... just gotta be carful not to snap the main stem during lst.... and you could use clamps instead of a roof fixture.. they hang down right beside the plant.. or where ever u want them

LOL Its not that hard to NOT snap your stem. LST is so easy a lawnchair could do it! The part you bend is soft, it wont snap unless you fold it in half. Knuckleheads who snap their plants aren't doing it right. LOL Just saying......
