I have a 4 x 8 tent, and I took 2 600watt hid's out and I put a gavita 1700e in there. New to leds, but what does everyone think about running 1 or 2? If i put 2 in there the leds will be wall to wall coast to coast. I'm thinking 2 will be slightly overkill but 1 is going fall a little short. I scrog the whole 4 x 8 area. Just looking for some advise from people that run led's. thanks

With 1 light you'll need to hang it pretty high and run it at full power to get decent coverage without burning your plants. Like you said, it will fall a little short of your two HPS lights.
You're right, 2 lights will be slight overkill. So you'll dim them down a little bit. You'll be able to put the light a little closer, without getting any hot spots where the light is too intense, and get a much better spread. This will help keep temps down, extend the life of your lights and give a you a little more headroom to work with in your tent. It'll be great.
If you're new to LEDs, consider getting some kind of "Quantum Sensor" or light meter to make sure you don't blast your plants while you figure out distance and dimming.

My buddy has the 1700e and the footprint and par are pretty much exact same as my lights. 20” is the sweet spot for flower

Well my situation is a tad different but no way in hell would I ever run 1 light over my 4x8 bed. I run a fluence spyder x plus and a hlg600h over my 4x8. I run 2 315cmh over my 4x4. I hope to throw a lux 645 over it in the coming week when I reset. 2 lights for sure not even a question! My 2 cents... you will very much regret running 1 imo. 2-3lb a light is almost easy with the newer 60x watt leds with the right genetics. I wish you luck!
