2nd LED Party Cup Competition Official Update Thread

Guess I'm out... =( Postal service gets a lot of backlog on these times (end of the year celebrations) so all my stuff is still on its way here. I don't think I'll be able to build the boxes in time, since I also have to travel to visit my parents during xmas and new year's... Once again, I hope...

2nd RIU LED Grow-Off Registration Thread

Actually, 2.5-3l sounds pretty good to me as a standard. Plus it's readily available where I live, so I cast my vote. But I'll go with what most of us vote for.

2nd RIU LED Grow-Off Registration Thread

I'm not experienced in growing on such a small space, so I'd feel more comfortable with 1 gallon. I'll be glad to try party cups, though! Always good to learn. So I don't know what to vote for. Also, 1/6 would be the only viable date for me, I'll spend the holidays with my family on another...

    Grow box lightning question

Welcome to RIU! I'm sure you'll learn a lot from this forum. I sure did! How did you build them boxxes? I'm making some of my own. I live on a small apartment so I need them to be stackable. Can you upload some pics? Also, can I use this space to ask a related question? The same question...

    LED+CFL Closet Coco grow

A friend of mine used it in half of his plants to have a blind tasting test and I personally disliked the way Bud Candy destroyed the original taste of the strains I experienced it in. It replaced the original sweet-and-sourness by an unnatural bubblegum flavor. I would never use it in strains...

2nd RIU LED Grow-Off Registration Thread

I tried posting yesterday but for some reason it didn't work. Well, I didn't have my lights ready on time on the last competition but I'd love to be in this one! Hopefully everything will be ok by January. One thought, though: Lots of people should be traveling around new year's eve, maybe the...

    diy beginning project

I don't mean to be blunt, but I think 40w is a very low wattage, even for just two or three plants. I'm also working with led stars and drivers and I should warn you there's a hella lot soldering involved. It's all good, though. You should also think about where mounting the diodes to, I had...

    5w vs 3w

Can you post some pictures? I'm planning on running 330x 1w LED on a similar area (12 sqft) and it'd be good to know. Also, what lights are you using? Hope you find a solution soon! Best regards

M_EVO_LUTION ** SideMevO ** ALL THE ROADS LEAD TO ROME ** DIY LED PROJECT

Looking great! I was trying to achieve a nice thermal management solution using bolts and a cheap aluminum dish, but it didn't work out very well for several reasons. Looking forward for the specs and colormix, I'm very curious!

    LED Spectrum design

Hello, fellow growers! I've been struggling to finish my LED lights for some time due to design failures and delivery times. Finally, all the diodes and drivers arrived. I'm currently revising the design as a whole, considering mounting them directly onto nice heatsinks (even though they're 1w...

Does Cannabis Contain Melatonin And Are Our Blue LEDs Using It Up, Causing Problems?

What about White leds? Could they be used to supply the spectrum? For example, adding 90 white leds to a 180 mix of blues and reds. That'd be more balanced, right? Ignoring the fact that it'd be more than 33% more light output, just considering the spectrum. My situation: I was planning on...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

Since I'm going to build other sources in this project, I'd like to keep it standardized. So I'm leaning towards thermoconductive glue. It's been a pain to find (I live in a small city), but I've found some DIY articles with tests showing similar performance to arctic silver adhesive while using...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

Eraserhead, they all test normally using the multimeter now. I've lifted all the bolts, they bolt heads were actually the problem. They're too big, so when I bolted the stars down the bolt head closed the circuit between the connectors on the edge of the stars, shorting most of the 90 leds. I'm...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

Maybe I should just switch to using thermoconductive glue and save the bolts for attaching extra heatsinks...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

How well would hot glue perform as an insulator? What about insulating tape? It's been hard to find plastic covers that fit the bolts I'm using. Thank you all for your comment and advice, I have 90 more leds on the way and waiting to buy the final 36 or so. Hopefully I'll have a box of light...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

So, basically, all the 90 leds are shorted by design. Hahahaha That was really stupid, in hindsight. I might use some silvertape on the edges to isolate them, should that do? Btw, this illustrates what I'm saying: Unpowered, directly on the led "legs" (middle pair), upper pair, lower pair...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

I just realized I made a terrible mistake and 4 leds are burnt because of that. None of them were bad in the first place, the thing is: All the poles in the star are able to conduct power! Even if there's one ledchip (as opposed to rgb leds p.ex), ALL the other 4 poles bring power to the diode...

(90 + 36 diodes) LED lamp DIY questions

So, back again. =) The project is now set to 180 diodes and a number of extra white LEDs for side lightning. But the side lightning should be added after the first experience with the 2x90 panels. I'm almost finishing to put the first one together, I'm not a very experienced DIYer and I'm having...

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

Well, this is the crude workaround I used. Gotta say they look bright for 1-watters (I know this doesn't mean anything concrete, but they do seem brighter than the ones in the UFOs I've seen) The pic was taken using my cellphone, so all kinds of artifacts show on the lights. Thanks again!

Seems like one big problem, I really could use some help!

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF- Just bypassed one led (The fourth one) and all the other seventeen leds went up and bright, so bright I've got a thousand floating points in my field of view now. God damn. Two hours and a headache later... and it's probbl just faulty wiring. I...
