Don't do it. You can pick up a legit fan control at the hardware store for $10 - and not burn out your fan or create a fire hazard.

Here's my perpetual cab, 2 - 150w hps diy aircooled with a few cfls in the flowering chamber. Cfls in veg and clone space. Flower space has 6 plants, each 10 days apart. Each 10 day cycle I harvest about 1.5 - 2oz cured.

If you blow too much room exhaust, it can cause backpressure in the furnace forcing CO. Not worth the risk. You can however vent into the stack of your plumbing system without danger. But K is right, smells do travel so it's always best to filter first before you blow it out.

I've got a similar situation and found a few things helpful... Insulation - I mostly built my latest cab from foil backed foam insulation. one side is nice and reflective. easy to cut and form, I made sure to put extra on the floor. Ventilation - don't run the fans when the lights are not on so...

I veg until they're big enough - about 18" high, LST to give at least 8 main colas. They end about 24-30" high. Some colas get 8-10" and cure up to almost a 1/4oz

I'm gonna go with CFLs because you say it's a small plastic space. Heat will be a problem with a 250hps and I don't like the combo of plastic and excess heat. I've gotten very repectable results with cfls. Have enough of em, and keep them close.

I've always understood that adding a light mover was better than simply throwing more lumens. The light movement allows better canopy penetration and better simulates natural conditions. Of course, movers can only cover so much, so it'll depend on your situation. Why not add both? :)
