    ...All Things Vero...

@PurpleBuz I know what I know about how these cobs perform first hand and you know what you know about how these cobs perform.. second hand. This past week, SupraSPL and I discussed some of the results I've recorded and we reached a few conclusions. We both use a similar wavelength correction...

    Thermometers, Thermocouples, and Thermal Readings

What's up fellow RIUians. I wanted to make a thread on thermal readings, as I haven't seen hardly anyone document thermal readings for their cob units, whether through commercial or DIY and I find it to be very important for us who want our lights operating at optimal temperatures. From what I...

    ...All Things Vero...

@nvhak49 I'd advise you to go with either top-bin CXB3590 or Vero 29, do not waste your time with CXB3070 top bin. I've tested them, compared them with other cobs and they aren't as 'special' as the datasheets would lead us to believe. @PurpleBuz We all learn from our errors. Nothing was ever...

@az2000 I figured it would make a few of you chuckle  @OneHitDone We all gotta start somewhere, mate

    A Thread On Tapping

LOL @flexy123 For my very first DIY COB project, which took place many moons ago, I bought some heat sinks that made it nearly impossible to drill holes into for screws, as I didn't have a solid surface to drill into but instead fins. I just decided that zip ties would do and they did...

    Top bin COB comparison

Yeah the numbers for the Mouser test were a little off-centered no doubt but it gives a general idea of how one performs against another; the objective was to determine whether or not the cobs would perform as they should if truly part of the same bin. From my point of view, they are of the...

    Top bin COB comparison

I don't know if it was this thread or another but I recently said I would test and compare the PAR output between a CXB3590 3500K (CD) from Jerry and a CXB3590 3500K (CD) from Mouser, as I was a bit skeptical of the performance of the supposed best COB available when acquired through through the...

    A Thread On Tapping

I've had some mixed results with the use of WD40 while attempting to tap, with latter results resulting in tapping threads as if I were spreading creamy peanut butter on toasted bread - super quick and effortless. It ultimately comes down to the size of the tap and screw when tapping and making...

    A Thread On Tapping

If it were me, I'd tap it. But that's because I've got the tools and experience to go through with such an exercise. You may opt to purchase an additional heat sink, if cheaper than buying tools, and test your application of using self-tapping screws with this version of a heatsink.

    Top bin COB comparison

Yeah looks nice, I'd be curious to see how the results differentiate between the Apogee 120 PAR meter, with approximated correction factor for otherwise excluded wavelengths, and the new one you mention. The argument was started when you butted in and carried yourself as you always do. Taking...

    Top bin COB comparison

It's true, the Apogee 120 is stated as being non-receptive to wavelengths above 655 and while our correction factor for that imperfection is an approximation and is therefore imperfect to the real world output of the pertaining light source, it does give us a damn good idea of how one apple...

    Top bin COB comparison

Please remind me, and possibly others, what the "whole purpose of this ligh" is? I keep seeing you delete comments, what's up with that?? What do you think the apogee 120 is capable of?

  18. AquariusPanta

    Top bin COB comparison

That is a very good point to bring up, that the solution to the PAR meter's wavelength-reading imperfections is built on approximation, although the correction factor, which is indeed approximated, is typically no more than ~5% off of gathered readings from the meter itself. The error of that...
