I would say you have to have a ph, tds or EC and temperature meter. All that you listed are needed in my opinion. As you know im sure you need the rez temps to be less than say 70 at the highest. Your ph has to be adjusted correctly and the tds or ec will tell you how potent your nutrients are...

A friend of mine on his first grow used straight culligan water and miracle grow mc. No nutes or additives and they actually turned out decent given the lack of anything. One strain was real earthy and the other was quite smooth and tastey.

Mine only get praise and the best care I can give em. Only time I cuss at them is when I get to pull a bud out of there cure jar and say something like "God damn you little motherfuckers taste good!"
