Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

This is interesting as the control unit itself has no power but takes power from the connector coming from the fan. (4 pin connector). Either was, it make it slightly more complicated but not out of my realm of ability yet! I really appreciate the follow ups. When I get a chance to try this...

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

That's ok, both threads really deal with the same principle. The AC infinity seems to be the same as the meanwell except that I do not have a ground to connect to HVG on the meanwell. With the info you provided I think I should be able to get this going without frying anything. Thank!

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

my understanding is that the dim+/- contacts supply 10v and I just need an additive pwn signal to be applied. i believe if I used a transistor, something as simple as this would work. Where the pwn signal from the microcontroller is driving the base of the transistor and the dim contacts supply...

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

I think this is the optocoupler @shimbob used but am not certain how it would interface. I'm thinking PWM signal from microcontroller to in1, dim+ from meanwell to HV, and dim- on meanwell to out1. Any thoughts?

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

Thanks, I actually read that thread, just not closely enough. I'm now wondering which wires are which on the AC infinity. I'm going to try figure it out with a multimeter. I mentioned @shimbob in the other thread. I'm mostly just lacking confidence in myself to figure out the correct wires on...

    DIY EC Fan controller?

Sorry @shimbob I see some of my answers in the thread now. Can you comment on which wires are which on the AC infinity fan? Im not confident in multimeter use yet. Maybe even just a picture or description of how you connected the sparkfun board to the AC infinity? Thanks! Steve

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

No worries. I did search and saw a few people that sounded like they might now, I might @ mention them if this gets no traction. I think I know some of the answers, but I'm gun-shy to fry the driver, microcontroller, or both.

Also give freely and without expectation of anything in return and anything you do will seem that much more sincere and authentic.

Hanging with girl that's turning 40, how much to spend

Does she pay rent somewhere? If she is truly just getting back on her feet, and you don't want to just throw cash at her, and do want to seem like you put some effort in, you could try to contact her landlord and take care of a month's rent? A month not having to worry about keeping a roof over...

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

I don't want the pot, it is already connected and working. I am removing it so I can use the Pulse WIdth Modulation option (PWM). From the datasheet on the driver: I believe I can connect an NPN transistor's collector and emmitter across the dim + and -, and send a PWM signal into the base of...

    HLG550 v2 rspec

That sounds right and seems like it would be definciency not related to lockout. Since it is eating and looks green otherwise, are you also feeding 50% cal mag dose? You could start by just bumping up the cal mag? If your plants start to yellow a little, or show other problems, I'd think of...

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

I have it connected with a pot like those right now. I am researching how to control it from a micro controller by using the option to control dimming via 10V PWM. To do that I need to use a NPN Transistor, or Optocoupler to connect the dimmer contacts on the HLG driver to my Raspberry PI or...

Hanging with girl that's turning 40, how much to spend

You say you can't smoke cannabis, but can or does she? A nice concentrate, or hash, something un-common from a local dispensary maybe? It's not too much, unassuming, and doesn't make you seem cheap, or really make any statement other than "I like you enough to buy you some hash". This is a...

    HLG550 v2 rspec

I am not sure I'll be the one who ends up solving this for you, but am trying, and I know the more experienced guys are going to ask: - Exactly how high is the light? - What are you dimmed at? - How often do you check your PH and what is it right now? - What is your nutrient mix? (actual...

    Upgrading to Radicle Bags!

I feel like it might be OK to resurrect this thread as you've probably had a chance to use them a couple times by now and I'm looking at these for my next attempt. How are they working out for you?

Lights On: Ramp up over time or Full?

Anecdotally, what is the magic you observe? Do you also grow outdoors at all, and if so, do you see less of the "magic" happening outdoors before the sun peaks? I'm honestly just curious, putting "magic" in quotes might sound dick-head-ish, but I'm honestly not sure to what you are refering...

Lights On: Ramp up over time or Full?

I was reading this article: https://www.ledtonic.com/blogs/guides/sunlight-ppfd-measured-over-an-afternoon It talks about peak PPFD for the afternoon being 1400+, but doesn't mention the day starting that way. I know we want to mimic and improve on nature, so of course not all things apply. My...

Dimmable HLG driver Optocoupler or Transistor, does it matter? (and other questions)

Hi All, I do not know a lot about electronics, just enough to tinker with Raspberry Pi's and Arduino's and make the odd circuit work. I'm very interested in trying to control the dimming feature on the HLG-480-C2100B driver I have and see that it takes a PWM signal. I found this written on an...

Lights On: Ramp up over time or Full?

I like to tinker, and was thinking it might be fun to play with the dimming on my new lamp. I know what I'm about to write could (should?) be classified as bro-science, but speaking in generalities, everything typically does better with a warm up before pushing to full potential, could that...
