My seedlings broke through the soil 6 days ago. I have them under a 400w MH right now ~17 inches away. The temperature is 78. Are these growing slow or at a normal rate? Looking at other people's week old seedlings I am questioning their growth rate.

Maybe you could mix the roots up in soil for future grows. May add some micronutrients.... Just a thought.

As long as the temperature is not too hot then it is fine. Put a small fan on the fixture if you can and then you have nothing to worry about.

Never use tin foil!! If you do not want to buy mylar there is a cheaper alternative that is quite effective. Use some type of shielding to act as the reflector (i used cardboard) and paint it with cheap white paint. It will not heat up and still reflects ~75-80 % of the light. Just a...
