“The President has crippled the credibility of this week’s summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected. This new Democrats-only backroom deal doubles down on the same failed approach that will drive up premiums, destroy jobs, raise taxes, and slash Medicare benefits.
“This week’s summit clearly has all the makings of a Democratic infomercial for continuing on a partisan course that relies on more backroom deals and parliamentary tricks to circumvent the will of the American people and jam through a massive government takeover of health care.
“The best way to protect families and small businesses in this time of economic uncertainty is to start over with a step-by-step approach to health care reform focused on lowering costs, and that’s exactly what Republicans are fighting for. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that the Republican bill reduces premiums for families and small businesses by up to 10 percent. The Republican bill reduces premiums by implementing common-sense reforms such as allowing Americans to purchase insurance across state lines. Despite their rhetoric to the contrary, none of the Democrats’ proposals – including the President’s – provides this much-needed reform in a manner that can actually be effective.
“Republicans are also standing with the American people by calling for health care reform to protect human life and not use taxpayer money to fund abortion. The Republican bill would codify the Hyde Amendment and prohibit all authorized and appropriated federal funds from being used to pay for abortion, which the President’s proposal would allow. Pro-life Democrats in the House have already pledged to vote against this provision. Health care reform should be an opportunity to protect human life – not end it – and the American people agree.”

Which in REAL terms means the typical person or family MIGHT see a reduction closer to 5% or less!!! Hooray for someone with a pre existing condition paying $1,000 per month for health insurance. Heres a whole $20 or so off your premium!!!! THANKS BONER!!!!!

The Republican plan might as well be a band aid for a gunshot wound.

And the Obama plan is another gunshot for a gunshot wound.

Why is everyone in Washington still talking about healthcare ? The American people have clearly said start over and do it some time later, there are more important things to fix.
Who knows what plan might work better, but the point is that any plan that allows more government control, more taxes and more spending is toxic to the economy

The majority of people like their insurance the way it is, they just don't like paying for the uninsured either through taxes or premiums. Here is an idea : Don't. You don't pay for your medical care, you don't get it. Sounds fair, right ?
Trust me, this ultimate fairness and personal responsibility will become the norm without fiscal restraint by the government. We will all be left to our own devices if things don't change.

Is there really a "healthcare disaster" or just an excuse for ideological action ?
Why is the federal government the only entity that can fix this "disaster"?
When did more government become the default solution to all problems ?

Besides all that, I don't believe a word of it from any politician on either side.
"Our Dear Leader" is no longer a politician, since he doesn't seem to be accountable to the American people on much of anything. At least congress is feeling the heat. Oh well, long live the dictator.

oh and by the way, make sure you blame all this on Bush, we must be consistent.

This has now boiled down to the american people vs Obama and republicans are on the people's side. Dems in congress seem ready to follow this lemming off the cliff. Obama's government can't keep our allies on board in Afghanistan, can't "engage Iran, can't get any job growth, can't close gitmo, can't figure out how to deal with terrorists - and his polls show it. But yet we are supposed to believe they "can" manage our healthcare for us?

They say "we" deserve an up or down vote on healthcare. I think "we" have spoken very clearly - we don't want his shit. So what he really means is "he" deserves another chance to shove it down our throats. He's not fooling anybody anymore.

1) the majority of americans WITH health insurance are satisfied with their current coverage. that amount does not factor in the people that DONT HAVE health insurance. if you got it, you like it. if you don't you don't count??? huh????

2) the federal government is the only entity that can fix this disaster because the experiment with private insurance companies has failed. there's a very large portion of the united states that doesn't get proper medical treatment, preventive or reactive, even though the nation spends the most per capita on health care in the world. there is something seriously wrong with those efficiency numbers.

3) The government hasn't become the solution to all problems. the federal government is proposing a solution to THIS problem. I think you're generalization is unwarranted, un-founded, and completely false.

oh, and I don't blame Bush for this, I will blame "the right" if their obstructionism makes health care reform fizzle. The president ran with an agenda that included health care reform. He won. the american people want something to help control the costs of health care. they want something that will actually work. not saving 700 dollars on a 10,000 dollar tab. that's not gonna cut it.

the way to do it is getting the government involved. Private corporations don't give a shit about anything but their financials, and that's the way it's always been, the way it's always gonna be. we've had this system for decades and all it's done is raise costs to consumers, maintain insurance companies' bottom lines intact, and left thousands of americans dead thanks to 'pre-existing conditions'.....

i said before, you're health should be something that's determined by you and you're doctor, not your doctor and you're insurance company.

congressmen are playing dirty politics at the expense of the people's well-being.

big-pharma lobbyists must have made some killer bonuses the last year.....

Just what you could expect from Bohener. A piece of ultra-partisan diatribe with no real substance at all.

What, do you think he is a god? For being an obstructionist? For being a liar? For selling the American People down the river to make a political point?

I can only hope that Patriotic Americans can see through this BS, and throw assholes like this out of power.

..

Also have to factor in those who because of age, pre existing condition, or both are paying a premium more than many peoples mortgage or risk going without.

A skilled politician, Boehner has an important contribution to the health care debate:
