Yes - I suspect that the light is too intense, what lights are you running and how far above the buds are they, you might want to raise them to the max.
How long? Hard to tell really, but from those pics, 3 weeks

Looks about like half amber hairs and half white hairs...just depends on the type of high/affect you're after in regards to harvest. But it's really hard to be reasonably accurate from hairs alone. A loupe or a cheap 30x-60x microscope can tell the color of trichomes for certain. What are your canopy temperatures?

I'm running a 140 watt and a 225 watt, approx LED panels at 8-16" from the tops. So I don't think it TOOO MUCH light, but maybe. My 60X loup shows clear tric's and the effects of the NL are now pretty good, though it is smooth and lifting.
But is it fox tailing? That is what I wanted to know. There are so many terms that are hard to find the meanings of.

IMO too much/too close lights can cause fox tailing and continued production of white hairs especially on sativa leaning strains.. fox tailing is more extreme then I see your girls doing but they all start somewhere I have had fox tails well over an inch long buds looked like they had fingers lol

17 weeks,how long in flower? some strains the bud form by what some call fox tailing and as they open up more, the bud fills in nice if its genetics even the lower buds will form that way.if its fox tailing they take off like a wild hair all on their own.if they have been if flower for 17 weeks then you got more than a fox tail issue the buds are small,there was a thread yesterday where the yield was small also.Maybe a couple things going on here.maybe back the camera off just a little bit to see a bigger picture of the buds.not sure if the photo is just of the fox tail or whole bud.will make it easier to tell whats going on.

Really 17 weeks? from seed maybe? those plants haven't been in flower for 17 weeks......and if they have then there is a major issue that has drastically slowed their growth. Neither of those plants should take that long.
If its been 7 weeks and you just mistyped, then they look perfect to be ready in about 2-3 more weeks when they are finished.

17 weeks from germination( Oct 25). Buds are plumping and the 'first cuts" seem to be good on the NL, but very lightly effective on the TD. I'm having trouble with pH just now. I was at 7.3 yesterday so I added 4-5 Ml of DOWN and Holy shit, today it is 4.3! In ~6 gallons of water! WTF?

Some strains don’t really amber ... I would scope the calyx and go from triches at those only.
I’m betting it’s time to cut them ....

It looks like it might have had some issues along the way , so the end result could reflect that.
Foxtailing can be from Nutes also . Your leaves are hella shiny.
Dead give away on nitrogen excess. You SHOULD be on a bloom ( low nitro ) feed by now and if your in late flowering begin to ween down so plant pulls from it’s reserves.
Excess nitrogen all but guarantees small bud development.

well, you got that one. buds are made up of masses of calyxes, which are kind of tear drop shaped. they usually form alternately, kind of like a pine cone, stacking on top of each other neatly. when a plant gets stressed, usually from heat, the calyxes can quit stacking neatly, and start growing right op top of each other, producing stringy growth instead of tightly packed, solid growth. that's foxtailing. heat is the usual culprit, overfeeding can cause it, excessive pruning, insect infestation....a combination of two or more can cause real havoc...

Thanks guys. I think I figured out my pH problem. I use my shot glass to collect the sample and then use it to measure out the DOWN. I found if I rinse the shot glass out I get better readings, DUH!
Does Northern Lights 'amber up'?
I'm out of patience with Grower's Choice, this is the second time I've done their Tangerine Dream and not too happy with the results after it took a Loooooong time to mature. The Northern Lights is a Godzilla strain, overpowering my TD. It a good 10" taller than TD and taking a loooong time too.
For my next run I'm switching to WW from Seedsman, to see if a new breeder will get my weed faster with less trouble.
