i got a cfl at the store and a clip lamp for it and an adapter from a big base to standard base and its not turning on. Do you need ballasts for CFL???

I just got a 250w MH bulb but dont have a ballast and am growing on a small scale and dont want a big garden or anything extra. Ive got a 32w CFL and its crap. Would say a 150w CFL be alright.

so I bought a 250 w metal halide over at the store but dont have a ballast.......................so now i have to get a ballast
