Seedling Problem!

I have a small problem with the odd seedling, a dose of grow nutes sorts it out pretty quickly, just wondering what is wrong with this seedling and if it is any one particular deficiency. I use to be able to grow quite a decent young plant with no ferts just repotting when root bound, now i have to fertilize from very small, my seedling soil has gone so weak compared to what it used to be! Crappy companies ripping me off with rubbish soil. Btw this is westlands soil and the seedling is growing very fast now and problem solved with first ferts, the damage is what was left behind and it looks quite striking and easy to identify i hope. Please comment if you actually know what the problem is. It is not overwatering, pH or temps neither is it nute lock from over feeding, this is definatly a deficiency, help me identify what my soil is missing please???

, pH or temps neither is it nute lock from over feeding, this is definatly a deficiency, help me identify what my soil is missing please???

It is over watering.

What makes you think that, nutes cleared it up straight away with no change to the watering schedule (took under 24 hours to stop drooping and look green again) It was a bit more yellow before applying nutes, i just thought the distinctive yellowing on the leaf edges and the leaf tip dying and shriveling like that might have led to a certain or main deficiency. I am almost certain i haven't overwatered them but maybe my watering techniques are off a bit. Thanks

It looks like a magnesium def, any way to check your soils ph?

My soil is pH'd when i get it out of the bag, the soil brands are starting to have to display the nute level and pH as well as the percentage of peat on the back of most bags where we live. The soil was tested a year or so ago and held up to the manufacturers claims, just over 6.5 out of the bag. I have only added tap water which again is not the problem. I have heard some say that we need a dedicated thread and test on commercial soil so we can work out what the contents, nutes etc etc are.

The the real problem with my soil seems to be that it is low in nutes, i use to get bigger plants per volume of soil but steadily they got smaller and smaller and seemed soil has less nutes in. Now even my seedling soil isn't suitable and seems almost nutrient devoid, i am having to fertilize seedlings that i have never had to and am mixing in a lot of the flowering compost as well which i would never do due to it burning seedlings. This is very obvious in my grow as as soon as i give weak nutrients the seedlings take of and grow faster than i have ever seen before. The plant in the picture is no bigger than it looks, i just missed getting the top of the plant in, but it has had a week and a half of good growth and recovery so you can see that the plant was very small when it had its nutrient problems. Basically i am down to fertilizing as soon as the first true leaves have formed and the second are just getting going. The roots haven't even filled the pot.

I am very concerned about this and have a similar thread for my flowering plants where i repot into the flowering compost which use to have strong nutes for 4/5 weeks and even before it has roots poking out the bottom of the pot it wants ferts, its like the soil isn't strong enough in the first place!!!

I am sorry if it is a long post but as you can see a real problem none the less! I am wondering if it is just low in one particular nute or a couple stopping the rest from being absorbed and the plant growth stunted. Wish we had some soil reps on here to tell the truth about our soil. It just dosen't feel or look like nitrogen (gut feeling) and was thinking, looking at the plant, potassium/phosphorous and calcium. This is a bit of a far out and radical conclusion considering its in veg and nitrogen is the big one here. I have seen a drawing and pic of leaves like this in the 'Marijuana horticulture the indoor/outdoor growers bible', think it was potassium and calcium but i gave that book away because thought i knew it all and it didn't help diagnose the deficiencies! Even if your soil is ph'd out of the bag, adding things like water and nutes can change the ph level very quickly.

Just water and believe me my country is passionate about water, our water is very good and of a good pH and nute level. Saying that i can get mineral water with the correct pH and ppm's anywhere from 150 to 300 but this would never be viable. I haven't added any nutes to get the problem but nutes did solve it. Seriously dude you saying the water in wales is less than perfect??? We value our water like our sheep, it can't be the water! Baaaaa

Up to now i'm swinging jon pauls way with the mag, my biobizz has good cal and mag so see how it could have cured it. Anyone else!!!

im here in wales and our water is shit with a ph of about 7.2.. i let it stand for a day and lower the ph with nutes. hope that will help..

Yer but you live in the south and i live in the north, 7.2 is not sh!t thats close to neutral, 6.5/7 big deal, alot better than if it was like 6! We get natural good water and no need to let it sit if you don't want to! Get back to the south jock!lol! Everyone now is jealous of the welsh water.lol!

I am pure welsh, i come from the south but prefer the north and i knew you were from the south as only they slate the water, everyone in the north loves the water, it taste very very good and i have asked the welshwater board about pH ppms and chlorine and all were very very good. They can't guarantee the exact pH it gets to you at but they can guarentee what ph it leaves the pumping station at and due to plastic pipes all over north wales we have like almst zero contamination from metals etc etc. Seriously the water in the north is very good for both humans and plants, really you don't have to worry about it. Dose anyone measure their water and say hey that is pH7 exactly neutral????? It is not the tap water.

I still drink mainly mineral water not tap water, perrier and san peligirino, wales makes the most exspensive mineral water in the world too!

Maybe that's whats wrong you have English seeds they dont want no stinking plain water they want some Tea. LMAO!! King do you sit around and just look at your plants? My god man your plants look great. Go feed them some Tea! LMAO again! I kill myself.

My plants dont look that great, i probably wouldn't take pics of my failures, i do throw half my plants before they get into flower and a lot of the leaves have damge from the odd passing bug or from when i have burnt them with the light. I should stepup with some real lights and start really yeilding but its more a hobby. I am just getting back into it at the moment after a cold winter, got maybe 5 weeks till good harvest maybe less. Soil is so hard to grow in sometimes, have so far have grown plants too tall, had nute issues, bug issues and lots off seedling problems. Plants seem to like determined people like me so they are not too bad, my main criteria were that i supplied myself all year round and never had to visit the dealers again, i think i have succeded my expectations for a few years now so i am happy plus growing any plant is so rewarding and such a great hobby.

You say my plants look great and i disagree, lots of purpling etc etc nutes seems to clear it up and i'm gona apply another dose of epsom salts next watering. I have had before small problems in early flower which turned into big problems in late flowering. I understand some people accept yellow leaves and purple leaves at the end of flowering but i want to keep it to a minimun.

I have a plant i am gona keep but it is sick at the mo, had problems and never dropped them, slowly i am getting her under control but it has been a long struggle. She started off with these problems but was more problematic than the rest, i have this on my sick plants but as soon as i get it it clears up with nutes, have not been able to shift with this plant yet but slowly going. Give me 20 mins to nip home and take the pic. Basrd on the new pic and leaves above and my seedling post what am i missing??? Berightback brb!

Yer i do want the healthiest plant possible, i am not english i am welsh btw england is a different country to wales even though we are next to england just like france is next to germany, anyway! My biobizz grow is npk 8-2-6 and the bloom is 2-6-3.5 have had no problems and am thinking the soil companies have left somthing out of their soils.

Got a few cheeky bugs coming into the grow room at the mo, they just munch the odd leaf and fall over stoned, they have wing but are too lazy and cause no problems, i have to remove a couple every day or so, close as i can identify its a carpet beetle but dont think it is! The bug pic is just for the hell of it!

I am leaning towards calcium magnesium especially magnesium deficiency?

Sorry the above pics are for the other thread from my plants in flower but this problem is running through veg and flower so ok. Here is the pic of a plant that got sicker than the rest, new growth is very purple, could be nothing but wonder if this helps.
