What to do if you find mold in your stored pot?

I harvested about a pound of pot from eight plants and stored it in jars as instructed. I cured most of it at least 12 days in the jars, then stopped opening and closing the jars. However, I was told to put an orange peel in the jars to keep it moist and smelling good. I over did it and put a few pieces of orange peel in the jars and didn't open them again until yesterday when I found there was mold in some of the pot in the jar. I inspected the other jars and some of them had some moldy buds in them, too. One jar even popped when I opened from the pressure that was building up in it. Here are my questions:

1. How can I save the pot that still doesn't have the mold?
2. Can the moldy buds be stripped of most of the mold and smoked?

Thanks.

Get rid of the mold, smoke it , and don't put the orange peels in there, there is a lot of water in the peels . I myself like my bud cured and dry not cured and moist

Yeah, smoking moldy pot is a GREAT way to learn first hand about long term respiratory problems.

You got bad advice and really screwed the pooch by putting those orange peels in there and not checking.

Now, it's garbage and toxic to boot. But, if you want to smoke it and learn from experience, have at it.

Or, give some to the guy that gave you the bad advice and let HIM get sick.

Yeah, tell your friend thanks, for that not-so-brilliant idea, and ruining alot of your smoke.lol If I were you, I'd lay out all the buds and let them dry out for a couple hours, before putting them back in the jars. Idk how bad it is, but hopefully, some will be salveageable. At any rate, any with visible mold on it, should be trashed.

Thank you for your replies. Some of the buds don't show visible mold but when I look at them through my 30x loop I can see small traces developing. Can I smoke those? And wouldn't the high heat kill the spores?

Those of you that smoke cigarettes may want to pitch them in the trash as well then.... The feds allow a small pecentage of mold in tobacco that is processed into cigarettes. They defend the practice with studies showing spores do not travel in cigarette smoke. Getting a mold spore through a filter could be a Houdini trick as well and second hand smoke carries no spores. Mold in itself is not dangerous, aspergillus (sic) which is a potential byproduct of mold is.

There is no reason to throw away the bud. You can make tinctures, you can water cure it and then smoke it as well.

I haven't seen any advice to stop burping jars after 12 days on this site. I use the orange peel trick on my personal jar, because i have a spicy blend that goes well with the citrus aroma, but you can't leave the peel in for days and days...

You might want to get a hygrometer for future cures so you can see the humidity inside the jars.

^Yea hash, butter, oil, tincture, and the previously stated water cure option, thats a shame to have a pound "wasted" but that's gonna be a lot of hash or whatever you decide to make

Can you guide me to where I can find what it means to water cure it and make tinctures? And do I understand correctly that if it isn't covered completely in mold, just lightly sprinkled with mold, I can smoke it? Thank you for your reply.

search function on site and google are awesome......glycerin tincture, Butane Hash Oil (if im not mistaken), water cure is just as it sounds you stick your bud in water for a week or so changing the water daily until the water stays clean......takes all the chlorophyl and other impurities out of your bud while preserving the trichomes and plant matter......reduces smell but improves taste

^Don't try water curing, it ruins your smoke. I tried it one time,(exactly as the process is described) outta curiousity, and trust me, it was horrible. It's a practical joke, I think.
