Hey Moe, I bombed and cleaned the rm yesterday. Ready to start anew. I'm still vegging the girls. Tomorrow I'll be putting them in their buckets, and I'll let them veg for a few more days to let the roots get going then I'll flip em.

Back left unknown Hawaiian indica, back right Duc Foot, front left Big Island Thunder, and the 2 small ones are Mowie-Wowie and are the fem seed project for this round, the taller one on the left has had 5 doses of colloidal silver already.

SWEET ... Fingers crossed eh? Was it a Pyrethrum bomb? .... Did you have to take the plants out?

The room looks really tidy. Wish mine looked like that. Think I'll buy a mini dustbuster LOL.

I'm going to reboot from tomorrow. I have 1 tub of 21 buckets+ but in a couple of weeks I would be finished. Think I'll start gentle with 20 or 30 seeds while I veg new Moms.

Edit:

Your Moms look nice and healthy and bigger than the ones I was taking clones from. Should provide some nice baby girls.

I had to take everything outside for the day, I used a F....en KILL everything bomb by Raid http://www.raidkillsbugs.com/fogger/ then heavy bleach after an extended venting. And of course all the girls got an oil shower before coming back in from the deck. I use a commercial concentrate (MITE JUICE) This stuff works, but I wouldn't use it past wk 3 in flower. So these kids will see at least 2 more showers if not 3.

So I hope all is well on the domestic front, for a mellow reboot. Maybe a chance for a little spiffing up in the ole room.

I tore down some used bucket yesterday to recycle the perlite, and I thought I'd post a couple of photos of the root structure in the soil caps. I tell ya there are several advantages to a 2" soil cap in a hempy.

On the positive side of the summer grow, my outdoor Maui-Wowie (the old chopped up mom) is really doing great, I made a tent to limit her daily light to 12 1/2 hrs, and she immediately started throwing out buds. She has 16 main kola heads. I'm sure I'll have to support some arms but I think I can deal with a problem like that.

Thanks for posting that ..... For me it genius.

One of the problems with the Perlite/Vermiculite mix is that I have found the bottom of my buds would get some Perlite stuck to them. Soil cap would prevent this. ... Fantastic.

Also, It would help reduce evaporation from the top of the Hempy, thus creating more even moisture throughout the bucket and root zone.

there are other advantages I'm sure. cool.

Hi folks...Okay, so Moebius, I'm wondering if you (or anyone else...) has used this with autoflowering girls. It'll be my first time with auto's but I'm short on room and am thinking that you 2-liter concept would be just the nuts. I'm also going to be stealing your soilcap idea, Watt because it just makes good sense. Nice looking porch-baby there, too... So thanks to both of you for some great new concepts. I'll also be groing two sativa girls in their own room using 5 gallon buckets and will be trying out the soil cap on them too. Just ordering beans tonight so it'll be awhile before I'm up and running but I'll track you down and give you some updates. Plus I'll most likely be asking advice at the same time... Thanks again, folks!
-Saul-

BTW: I'm assuming that the type/brand of soil is not much of a factor here, since it's just a cap...am I correct?

Ive never grown Auto's ... Ive yet to find a reason why to. ... Presumably, you're talking a seed job since Auto don't clone. The problem I see is with the length of roots. You will have to keep watering regularly until the roots reach the res. Having a 'wetter' substrate like a soil cap might help until the roots reach.

If I were you; I would stay away from Ruderalis and just go with a regular Indica/Sativa hybrid.... Apart from the fact you'll have more 'flavours' to choose from, in my experience the plants can be kept small by taking smaller clones and ... because of the relativly small 2L bottle size. If you want bigger go 3L.

regarding the soil cap. Why not do it proper? I would just use a nice regular potting compost with a sprinkle of guano mixed in. Simple.

Edit:
Good to have you on board, Saul :leaf:

Hello all... Quick question. I'm using per/verm mix 75/25, I am using GH 3 part nutes as directed on bottle,ph 6-6.5. I am 30 days into flower and I have an N abundance, leaves are dark green you know that green thats kinda black looking dark, also have they rams horn leak curl. So I flushed with plain water run off was 100ppm or so when I was done.
So the question is should I ...1. just keep up with plain water for a few feeding until I see a change.

2. use GH nutes but cut out the flora altogether when mixing feed water.

3. run higher ph so N is not available.

Oh b4 I forget I have been mixing GH nutes 1/2 strenth bloom formula.

I got a little overzealous with my Auto, and she Rams Horned pretty good on all of the top cola leaves, and then stopped growing,, So I flushed her with the next two waterings, then went back in with a lower dose of Nutes, and she recovered GREAT.. I also have been using the GH 3 Part, but she is getting the Lucas Mix, so only using the 2 parts.

I also done Lucas / two parts.

Never bought the green because I figured since I go to flower immediately why?

You did the right thing using the full 3 part during veg by the sounds of it. With the Lucas ratio I never did get that 'Dark Dark Green'.

30 days in flower I wouldnt have thought the Green bottle was necessary. I would go with a Lucas Ratio or similar, what is it? 8ml and 16ml per Gallon?

Please other people ... chime in.

Thanks rusty and moe. I also go str8 2 12/12, and was going to use lucas, but had heard others complain of Cal/Mag def when using that mix. GH is 1-2-3 then 3-2-1.

I will flush one more time 2nite as soon as lights kick on. I'll to switch to lucas formula next feed, is it ok to run it full strength in the hempys? what type of EC should I get from this mix? I think I'll start feeding at a 1/4 and work my way up,does that sound good,or am I being to cautious?, I don't want to go from an overfert situation to a def...lol

Thanks again, and any feedback is welcome.

Got the new grow kicked off finally. 14 3/4 gallon hempys. I've got 11 50/50 perlite to vermiculite mix and I've got 3 that are straight coco with perlite in the rez. 3 fem PPP and 4 reg Papaya, 5 from some fruity tasting mids and 2 totally random bagseed. Their in 18/6 veg right now under about 300 watts of 23w cfl's. They only have their single blade leaves right now. Soon I will switch to a 250w MH with some supplemental cfl lighting. The plan is to veg them up to 4-5 nodes and top them. Let them grow back a bit and top the top shoots again, strip off any lower growing shoots, and have a "main-lined" plant at only 4 tops per plant. Should take about 3 wee ks to get to this stage then I'm going to flower under a 250w HPS. I'm a little worried about getting root bound but hovering grows much larger plants in 1 gallon containers and he does fine. I may only top each plant once depending on how quickly everything is growing. Dyna-gro nutes (Foliage Pro, Grow, Bloom, and Pro-teKt). My girl has been bothering me about growing her own plants so this time around 3 or 4 of them will be hers to take care of. I'm giving her her own little cfl fixture so she will be in charge of keeping the lights at the right height, watering, feeding, diagnosing def, she'll top her own plants and trim them as she sees fit. Will be interesting to watch her grow play out. Can't really compare them though since she will only have cfl's and I will have a 250 HPS plus some cfls if I want them. Just getting her feet wet.......and that pussy too.

I have a couple of clones I've taken down the main line track. I thought my girls were ready for the choppin' and I stunted them pretty good, so I'd recommend making sure you have a real good root base prior to chopping to the single hub.

hi all, this is my first hempy, so i was wondering if the strength of nutes is the same as other hydro setups. Ive done bubbleponics before with some success but i wanted to give this a go because it seems so easy. I have started a bubblicious, berry bomb, cheese bomb, blue mystic, kandy kush and an orange grapefruit. I am running a 12/12 from seed setup. Running 2 x 24w 6500k + 2 x 55w 5500k + 2 x 24w 2700k cfls. My mix is 3:1 perlite:vermiculite.

YES, I too had CalMag Def and had to start using it with the Lucas Mix,, I tried to get away without, but NO GO. And YES, 1/4 Strength is perfect,, Then just work up from there. Since you have to water the Hempy more, moving up in Strength if needed can happen pretty quickly, so start low and go up as you see fit.

I also started clones that I took on the GH Bottle formula, and so far, I have not needed the CalMag. They are well into their veg stage,,, I also have not gone full strength of what the bottle says,, In fact, I think I am only just above 1/2 strength and the girls are doing great.

Yes, nute strength is the same for Hempy's (plant dependent of course),, Just the PH Range is a little different than full hydro. I like to vary from 5.8 to 6.1 PH.

Man Watt I am right there with you. I have a couple clones 10 days into veg and noticed some chew marks on the leaves. I neem'd the shit out of em and bleached my grow area. I have only the 2 plants and a relatively small grow area, 3x2x3. Do you think if I keep up the neem for a few weeks I can stop these little bastards?

This grow is 2 unknown clones I got from a couple friends. The bigger one, U1 is an untagged clone found at my friends house. The smaller one, U2 is a clone from a cutting my friend took off a outdoor grow he found while fishing. (For any outdoor growers out there he only took cuttings) I am running hempy's in straight perlite and using the GH 3 part with liquid koolbloom, florablend and floranectar supps.

I am training U1 fairly hard, trying to slow her down and let U2 catch up a bit. U1 is nice and branchy, with long side branches having nice node spacing. I topped her in a few spots, and she is filling the screen well.
U1

U2 is behind in overall size, but she is starting to grow and once she gets a few inches over the screen I will start training her hard.
View attachment 2305836SAM_0505.jpgView attachment 2305839SAM_0508.jpg

10-20 days more of veg and they should be pretty full and ready to flip

My bottle of dyna-gro suggest using three times the amounts of nutrients in a recirculating system compared to a hand water method like hempy.

You mention chew marks. You might have aphids. If you can stop the source, then most of the time 3 doses will knock them out, I like to put in at least 4 doses just to make sure.

I never get tired of seeing small cab scrogs. It's just really cool watching a screen fill in.

Ya more like yellowish-white marks on the leaves I meant. I am pretty sure they are mites. I am fairly certain they are from my friends place. I picked the one clone up from him and let him know and he has seen them too. I sprayed yesterday and today I sprayed some epsom. Should I spray them daily or every other day.

Thanks I am still trying to nail this scrog thing. First grow I was a little too impatient and my second grow had some heat issues. Hoping to get it this time. Thanks for the advice.
