OK here it is I dont know how many people here know about cars... well the H.I.D headlights that alot of newer cars for example BMW, AUDI, Mercedes... Well if those lights are about 55 Watts.. Would it be possible to use this in a smaller grow area.. its not like a hydro H.I.D because it has no bulb over them there open filament... I know u can run them of a power inverter like for a car.. that way there is no chance of a fire hazard it will just pop the inverter... and im sure if u find a glass tube the same size u can make a 55 watt cool tube but for a smaller space... this is just a thought i had.. i no i can power the light safely but is this a good idea??? :?::bigjoint:

hey teggs i asked this once before awsell lol you can get a kit off ebay for cheap, i think they go down to a kelvin temp of 3000k which would be perfect for flowering.

it could be done but you would have to get a beefy powersupply to run it all you could cram 2 55w's in a pretty small space maybe even in a pc case like yours, if you can find ideal power supplys i cant see why not

I'm sure with a little ingenuity you can make it work. But remember, metal halide and hps lights have a certain spectrum that helps to promote a certain kind of growth. So I think the question to ask is: Is it going to be effective?

interesting, especially if you mount them in the headlight reflector depending on the beam spread, looks like 3200 lumens or so? good for a square foot, better yet 2 of them in the reflectors and angled from 2 opposite sides of the top of the plant? or 2-3 aimed down at an lst'ed plant? the reflector is what would really make it feasible since all the light would be aimed toward the plant, wonder what heat is like from the xenon bulbs? Id say give it a go, why not? now would it be better tha a 150 watt cmh (or cheaper?) who knows, but it would be cool :)

well the differing color temps they list are interesting but you'd really have to see an actual power spectrum to see how well they would do

Your going to waste your money on that... what a waste. How many do you plan on getting for $80? If I were you, which I'm not, but anyway I would save my money and buy a real light system. I got 1000w switchable ballast with both lights and a cool tube for less than what you would spend on 4 those. I think you would probably get more out of CFLs. Sorry if I come of as an ass just giving my 2cents.

Ye u came off as an ass thats for sure... maybe learn how to word things properly so ppl dont think that... man im a mechanic... i deal with cars all day i got range rover hids if i wanna use i got bmw hids why waste tose wen i can buy a set new for 80 bucks that dont have a plug and play harness that id have to cut off ne ways.. AND second IM GROWING IN A PC CASE NOT A FUCKING ROOM!!! so maybe read before u post... SORRY if i came OFF AS AN ASS :-)

different spectrum of light and they will spot burn your plants where as a light made for growing something as plants would be more spread out, but by your previous posts you already know that, so.

I don't know why people are so averse to even considering anything different, jeez, pot is supposed to mellow you out people, if he wants to try it I say go for it, especially if he has some stuff already or just likes messing around with stuff for fun.... and how can someone say it will "spot burn", have you tried it? do you nkow what spectrum the bulbs are? I looked(ok, not that long :) ) and didnt see any, have links?

Yeah I agree...I have a small area to deal with too, so going out getting a metal halide light would cause more problems than help. I say go for it...experiment and let us know how it turned out.

better off getting a lighting system that is made especially for growing. it may very well work, but i wouldnt expect spectacular results compared to a hid meant for growing. i do think it is a cool idea though. good luck if you decide to put it to the test.

there was a post on a different site where a guy did a car hid vs cfl and led grow as a experiment but had to harvest the car headlight plants early cause he screwed them up with bug killer and said he was starting a new one never updated after that

I cant find the link now maybe tomm i can
