I could use some help with my cab! (9 PIX)

First and foremost this is the issue I am having! TEMPS REACH 98 DEGREES!





Heres my closet!



Here's my cab!




I have a home made cab with a 400 Watt HPS DIY Cool Tube , and two 120mm PC Fans (about 70cfm's each). One for cab exhaust and the other for "cooling" the cool tube (pushing air from the left side and exhausted out the top). More than likely, I am going to have to get a stronger fan to blow the cool air through the Cool Tube, but is a 4" Axial Fan (105 cfm's) enough or do I need more? And once I replace the fan how much more will my temps drop? Once I free up 1 PC fan, where should I put it? Perhaps inside the cab somewhere? Please help!

All your input is greatly appreciated and please don't hesitate to be hard on me (NO HOMO!)

simple you just need a bigger fans
1 going threw your cool tube and 1 venting the grow area

What type? I need it to be real quiet! Other than that is my design okay? I do have a hole at the bottom behind that metal flap for intake and that 120mm/70 cfm PC fan in the back at the top is sucking air out of the cab. Is this enough?

nah man, i am making almost the exact same thing, but with a 1000 w hps, and im gonna try and use only 1 fan, a 420 cfm Aeroflo Duct Fan off of ebay(cheap) its kinda quiet but not enough for me, probly not enough for you either, so im gonna hang it from cords and see what happens, but i think ill be good on the air flow, but you need at least 300+ cfm running through that box in 1 fan or like double it to be sure.

the stronger the fan the more noise it is going to make
the design is good the only thing is what about the smell?
maybe you could rework the exhaust fan at top with a bigger fan with a carbon filter that would help with your temps and get rid of the smell also

cut off a chunk of the back and keep the bit you cut off like a big square out the middle
and get some black or dark blue sheet or curtain cut it and double over if you have to to block the light, put a white t shirt or something bright white cut to size on the inside and pin it over with loads of drawing pins or glue

that should drop the temp and block light infiltration and leave air to flow in and out just keep it an inch or two away from the wall and aim your fan or if it oscillates even better

make it so when it spins it hits the material and it should help and also pull in a lot of fresh air into the box

it looks cool man very professional job but do try and get a fan if possible but the idea i gave above helped me when i started in my cupboard
a quick fix that works and there is no extra noise

a good one for smell is coffee in a bowl it is a natural odor remover they use it when they cook meth to cover the smell so it must be good lol

you can get a bag of carbon (activated) from any aquatics shop in all different amounts all you need is that and some chicken wire and a pair of tights and macguyver that shit

Yeah, I seen a couple of DIY carbon methods I plan on using as soon as I get these temps under control. Coffee is what they use to clear your passage at department stores when you are testing fragrances. So good thinking! I don't know too much about meth but I'm sure you can find a couple threads over at BLOWitup.org. lol (cornie joke.... i know!)

Couple things!

The DIY carbon filter can only do so much. That cabinet is far from air tight? And since your fans aren't very high powered all the air won't be sucked through your DIY carbon filter. I am having the same issue right now. Our cabinet are quite similar!

I plan on upgrading to a 400w hps in a few weeks when my harvest is done.

What is the temp of the room? not the closet but the room the closet is in?

Also is the temp your taking inside the cabinet or inside the closet?

From what I read it seems you only have 1 fan hooked up on that cooltube, and you stated it's pushing air through the cooltube? If so I would try putting the fan to pull air through the cooltube.

The temp of the roomstays about 74-75 degrees maybe cooler with the window open.

the temps were taken inside the cab

and its late, so perhaps tomorrow I will turn around the fan and try test the temps. Its quite noisy puling the cab out of the closet with no wheels at the bottom. lol

Try adding an intake fan at the bottom of your box - and keep your two fans up-top for out-take - the box will heat up if cool air isnt brought in to push up the hot air. that may be a quick easy fix - the two fans up top should help circulate the cool air and remove the hot air that rises. You also may want to buy ono blocker for the smell

You don't need an intake fan, just a passive intake slightly larger than the total of your exhausts, this helps you maintain a slight negative pressure, vital when you need to control the smell as it prevents air leaks. Definatly upgrade your exhaust fan, I run a 600w DIY cooltube similar to yours, with a 240cfm fan pulling air through and temps stay 75-85, though my ambient temps are pretty low atm, around 40-50, and its quite a large space compared to yours. I would suggest at least a 300cfm fan, quite running ones can be had, but have a price premium attatched. Just build a wooden box to enclose the fan, and hang the fan from bungee cords inside the box. If its still not quite enough then fill the box with foam, NOT expanding foam! The kind that gets used as packing instead of bubblewrap. Noise is just vibration, if you can damp/absorb the vibration you eliminate the noise.

Alright! Sounds good! I figured I would have to get a new fan for the cool tube. However, I don't wanna spend like $600 dollars on 2 fans for the odor and to cool the cool tube. I will probably get a fan this coming week around Wednesday or so. I made a trip to Walmart and Home Depot this morning and got four 26w Daylight CFL's to put in there so that I dont kill the babies I started baking under that 400w HPS. I'll just leave those lights on 24 hours. lol I guess the main thing is just selecting the fan now. Would like to stay under or around $100if necessary. There are 2 Hydro stores not too far from me but I'm sure I will end up paying full, so I prefer eBay or a good online hydro store.
and yes, I am a NOO-bian!
