Fruity Goodness: Jillybean, GDP and Strawbery Banana Kush

Pull up a virtual chair and enjoy my latest grow:

Jillybean by TGA
Grand Daddy Purple by GDP, and
Strawberry Banana Kush by Reserva Privada

This will be a test grow, through which I will be selecting candidate mother plants, so I am not expecting great yeilds, maybe an ounce per plant or so. I grow soilless using Promix with added perlite. My nute line is FF with some Botanicare supplements (transitioning to the Pureblend, though I do like FF) under a 400w. My approach is to minimize the fuss and stress. Priorities go something like this:

Quality of High>Flavor>Potency>Plant Vigor>Yeild

I am in the process of finishing out my grow space, permanently built under the basement stairs with a heated floor and other fun stuff-- I'll throw in some talk about that throughout the grow. I am working towards a space that requires as little maintanence as possible, because I have a lot of other interests that keep me busy.

I am in the process of looking for 4 keeper strains for my perpetual setup. I am just finishing a run of Bangi Haze (Ace Seeds) and some of the GDP (only one of the five seeds I germed turned out to be a workable female). I'm currently 6 weeks into flower and will post pics tonight.

Comments are welcome. I plan on posting about every other day.

As promised, here are some pics of the crop I am running now....

First, an overview. I am 6 weeks in to flower; all of what you see from this angle is Bangi Haze from Ace. They have four more weeks to go. So far, I am impressed with the strain. They show good viggor and a fair amount of uniformity. One of the plants is clearly a sativa pheno, though-- lots of stretch!
Week 6 Room (1280x815).jpg

All the plants were just left to veg for 4.5 weeks, and flipped to flower. No LST or pruning. I'm looking for natural structure-- I want good branching for future scrogging. I like this one best so far:

Week 6 Bangi top (1280x945).jpg

I also have one GDP. I germed 5 seeds, 4 sprouted. Of the 2 girls, one did not look like she would produce. I'll plant up the other 5 seeds in the Fruity Goodness Grow, and hope for at least two more girls from which to choose my favorite. This girl will be ready to cut in 2 weeks. She is just starting to develop some purple, and is frosting up nicely. The grape smell of this strain is incredible; I hope it comes through in the flavor.
Week 6 GDP Close (1280x903).jpg

I'm not used to working with indicas, and so found it surpising how squat she is. Virtually no stretch makes her half the height of the other plants under the light. I have to prop her up on a paint can to ensure she gets enough light!

I'll be planting seeds for the Fruity Goodness Grow tomorrow, and hope to be posting pics of spouts in a couple days.

Thanks, man. I'm really psyched about my new grow room. I used to grow in a cab in the basement and had a bitch of a time with temps because I live in New England. I can get this room into the mid-70s conistantly, and that has made all the difference to me.

looks good! Ive been thinking abut the gpd for a while now. always hear good stuff about it. Tga has some really strong gentics. Everything I have got from them has been top notch!! Im running the deep purple from them right now. All the crosses I made with the dp, always have the dp side show the most. I had a querkle but never got to see it finish, heard it was really good. I know just what your talking about with the cold and such in basements. The good thing about it is, my room getts chilly during the dark period which helps with flower production and color. good luck man!!

Yeah I'm building a cab now, hope i can get my temps dialed in quickly when done.. Right now in rubbermaid.. But there working. Must be sick to move from a cab to a room!

Thanks for stopping by, Pits.

My temps get down into the mid 50s at night, so I'm hoping to get some good color on this run. It must be fun running your own crosses-- that will be one of my hobbies when I have some more time to give.

I have really liked TGA, based on my limited experience (one run of Jillybean and Vortex). I decided on re-run Jillybean over Vortex, since the strain was very popular with the ladies, and I find it to be a more consistant, and higer producing strain. I feel confident I will find a keeper in this run. I really like the high of Vortex, but I couldn't find choice pheno in my last 10-pack.

I had some Querkle seeds that I screwed up and killed a while back--sometimes I need to learn through my mistakes. Now I am religious about the way I germ seeds: rapid rooters, ph 6 water and no other fancy stuff like heating mats. It works like a charm for me.

I LOVE having the room, though it has taken me a year to pull it together. It's only a 3x7 flowering area, but it provides me plenty of room. I run a single 400w, but could squeeze in a second if needed (in the winter only-- too much heat for the summmer).

BTW, I ran a 250w in my cab, and it went fine-- it's just a challenge to finish out flowering in the heat of summmer.

Yeah i bet, im gonna have pc fans available alone with a duct fan cooling my cool tube. The pc fans should really help during the summer!
3x7 is a really good amount of space, considering people only have micro cabs lol.

I had trouble with the peat pellets for seeds. I always start in lg dunkin donut cups. One of my buddies killed like 15+ seeds from amsterdam with the peat pellets a few years back. The peat pellets work awesome for clones tho!! Gota love the bud that gets you pussy!! Thats always a re-run!! They seem to love the big khola's too!! lol

And deff start breeding!! Once you get some of your own strains and run 15-20 females, select 1 or 2 of the best phenos cross them, you will be addicted!! I try to cross every plant I like. I have so many crosses I've been spreading the seeds around. Ill never be able to use them all. I keep looking at them sitting there in the freezer chillin, wish I could start every strain i have. I would probably have 40-50 strains.... I have about 30 in my room right now. Going to pick 3-5 special mothers to cross with my stabilized white russian. cant wait for the off-spring from those!!

here is my grow if you wana take a look https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/775080-regular-auto-grow-take-look.html

Seems like it's time for a bit of an update....

I'm a daddy!
Germing1 (1280x775).jpg

They're just starting to sprout. The two in the foreground are Strawberry Banana Kush-- psyched they both sprouted, cause I only bought two fems. The ones in the back are Jillybean. No GDP sprouts yet, but things are early just yet.

Speaking of GDP, here's my flowering Purple! Note how different the color is compared to her neighbors. She is about 12 days from harvest.
Week 7 GDP (1280x850).jpg

Yes, that is some nasty clawing on the one fan leaf. She is very sensitive to ph, and I gave her a feeding at 5.7 a couple weeks ago (should be 6.0 to 6.2 in the Promix).

And here is one of the Bangi Haze, just 'cause I think she's pretty. Three weeks to go, and she's finally getting those trichomes going.
Week 7 Bangi (835x1280).jpg

The rooms almost done, and just in time because the sprouts wiill want to move into the veg room under my 250w soon.

Going away for the weekend. So far 7 Jillybean and the 2 Strawbery Banana Kush has sprouted. One of the GDP came up, but it was lacking cotyladons, so it's an abort. I'm hopeful some of the other 4 GDP will come up soon. Don't know if it's a problem with the strain, or just this batch of 10 seeds.

So far I've experienced two weak sprout and one with no cotyladons-- too much of an issue to be coincidence. The Jillybean were part of the same shipment, so I don't think storage was the issue.

Looking good, Nitegazer! Too bad about the GDP, though. Jillybean is one of my favs, so I'm anxious to see some pics when they come in. I'll be starting my own grow soon, and you've got some great advice up here!

Nice to hear from you Sixstring. Can't wait to see how your growspace turns out.

NEWS FLASH!
Last minute substitution: Two fem Mad Scientist x Jackberry because I am losing confidence that the GDP will give me any good sprouts. So far only one of the five seeds has come up, and it lacked cotyladons. I now have 8 of the 10 Jillybean sprouted as well as the 2 Strawberry Banana Kush. Forutnately, I can just reveg the GDP that I am going to harvest soon. I would have liked to have had more to choose the mother from, but a bum bunch of seeds is a bum bunch.

Jackberry is a Blueberry indica cross with Sannies version of Jack Herer. MadScientist is a cross between Sanie's heavy indica known as Herijuana and White Widow. It should be a hard hitting fruity mostly indica that finishes in 7-8 weeks. I got it as a freebie with my last order.

Great to have a couple more folks on board. I will be putting my GDP in the dark tomorrow, in anticipation of a chop on Wednesday.

Here's a close-up.
