My Dwc Grow

I was going to put this in the diy section but then i realised that the majority of dwc grows out there are diy anyway, so I stuck it in here. If any mod's want to move it somewhere else, please feel free.

First off, an inventory.

2 plastic window boxes: 2ft long x 10in wide x 10in deep. 7.00 pounds.
1 roll of pvc coated wire netting (50mm mesh). 3.99 pounds.
4 bubble rings. 10.00 pounds.
1 four-way air-pump. 29.99 pounds.
6 net pots. 1.80 pounds.
1 tube aquarium glue. 5.99 pounds
1 5l bag clay pebbles. 2.50 pounds
3 sq meters of white-black-white. 9.00 pounds.

To a total of 79.38.

As you will see from the pic's i am growing 6 plants using this method.

I glued the disks to the bottom of the boxes and likewise the tubing to the sides. I allowed this to dry for over 24 hours beneath the metal halide.

I also used two layers of the pvc coated wire netting to ensure stability as the plants mature.

Also, I don't as yet have a truncheon so I am relying on instinct and my ph test kit to grow these plants. It worked fine for the mother plant.

Okay got in there this morning and two of the plants in the right trough had proper wilted. Not the normal wilting you get after first transplant as they had gone through that and stood back up again nicely. The not nice kind of wilting. I guessed that the level of the water wasn't high enough and poured some feed over the top of the clay pebbles to make sure the roots got a nice wash of the good stuff.

I went back an hour later to see what had happened and one of the plants had stood back up again while the other looked worse. So I've pulled the bad one out and replaced it with a different clone.

Hopefully now that the level of water is right I shouldn't get this problem. The plants in the other trough are all doing fine. So it had to be the level of the water. Next time, I think it would be better to layer the edges and bottom of the net pots with rockwool so the rock wool can absorb the water better, also it will stop the pebbles falling into the trough as I deliberately bought wide-space net pots.

They have all firmly established roots now, so I have stopped watering from the top. There hasn't been much upward growth as yet, if any at all. I'm thinking that this is because the plants have been establishing themselves. Hopefully this next week will start getting me excited.

Plenty of upward growth now, and things are looking good. I've put the bubbling mother plant into flower and I'm looking forward to a good yield off her.

I'll be getting a new strain in, well it's an old one but I loved the plant that much I'm going to buy another pack of seeds. The strain is called jack the ripper.

Anyways I'll keep this thread posted on what's happening with the dwc.

After 19 days things are looking sweet, and as soon as the blasted soil ones have finished flowering these can go in themselves. They are going to end up having about 5 weeks veg... which is fine as I now have an outlet for my clones.

I'll post some pic's later...

Here's those pic's. They were taken right after a period of dark as I also have some la confidential x mystery haze vegging, and I wanted to give them the blue bulb. The dwc grapefruit will be fine for a week under hps.

After 19 days I don't think the growth rate is as good as my first attempt... maybe because these guys only have half the pot-room. They only have about 6 1/2 litres each and I'm half regretting not growing just four.

These will be the last of the grapefruit as I'll soon be switching to the la confidential x mystery haze.

The last pic' is the la confidential x mystery haze. I'm hoping that the mystery haze will become obvious as the plant grows.

ok. 2 weeks flower. dwc.

The last pic is a lower branch, I haven't the heart to cut it off. Also grapefruit is a sativa, and I'm hoping that by leaving the lower branches the bastards won't grow so high as I only have a 5' height to work with, meaning the plants can get to 5' before any bending and tying is needed. Also, they'll make quite a nice smoke around the 8 or 9 week mark, as despite what it says on the pack (8 wks) these can go for more like 12 wks. I'm expecting a decent yield off these six plants.

It's because of the long veg' time they had. They have 6 litres each and were vegged for 4 1/2 weeks. 400w hps

I have a larger dwc grow. 11 plants, 4 with 14litres each, another 4 the same (both have a 400w HPS above them), and 3 with 32litres each (also with a 400w Hps above). They had a 3 week veg. They've now been flowering for a day less (all clones from same mother both small and large grow) and are nowhere near in terms of bud development to the smaller grow. However, they are much taller and thicker.

Both grows have the same everything, virtually. same nutes, all clones from the same mother. The only difference is the amount of pot volume. The larger grow also has more watts per plant with 1200 watts doing 11 plants, the smaller grow has 400w doing 6.

This proves to me that veg' time is extremely important, also it's relevence to pot size in regards to the triggering of flowering.

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely stay tuned to your grow. I suspect a sativa like like Grapefruit is just what I need, but I have stayed away so far because the plants are typically so much larger and my indicas are always over 3ft as is.

yeah looking good.
I have heard a little about DWC.
I am going to have to learn more.
It looks kinda neat. Looks like might be fun to build and maintain.
