Well I've moved to this forum to gain a bit more traffic, because I'm approaching a more serious part of the process. Sorry guys. I hope you guys can sub me. Ill catch everyone up to speed with a link to the last forum posts...https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/504171-need-advice-minimal-indoor-grow.html

Alright, so on my last post I said:
I am constructing my DWC/Bubbleponics system as we speak. Got my 18 gal sterilite container with lid, plenty of airline tube, and a dual nozzle 60 gal pump with two 12"air stones for each row of roots. Im headed to my local hydro store to grab up some 3" & 5'' net pots and hydroton. I need some advice tho..... Which brand of nutes is best? I want to grab the quart of humboldt grow for my up and coming veg. stage. What do you think?

I will also be upping the light in a week and a half to 42 W CFL (5000-6500K)

and I promised pics of the set up thus far, and my plant progress a little bit ahead of my 2 wk mark. So, here ya go.

Pic One: my construction on a DWC/Bubbleponics system. I also found my syringe measuring glass (gotta have a shot of my green grow journal!). I only lack nutes, more light and the netty pots + Hydroton-- which I will fetch today at my local hydro shop (putting hydro/nutes/higher W lights into the picture after 2 week mark).
Pic Two: top side to my healthy plants (1wk, 3 days).
Pic Three: Side view to my healthy plants, I am worried about stretching. LST? thinking like a string to net it from getting to high too soon (w/o damaging or forcing the plant down at all)
Pic Four: Temporary closet set up (no more foil except for roof board and front side) covered up.
Pic Five: Temporary closet set up uncovered, showing brightness of just two 26W CFL 5000Ks and distance im keeping them from the light (3-4"). Light wattage will build in a week and a half roughly (better light rigging and reflectors/nutes introduced then as well).

Well like I said, feel free to subscribe me guys. Let me in on some advice with the nutes, which I will be getting today or tomorrow. What brands, N-P-K you have liked in the past, etc. My local shop has all the big brands like humboldt, fox farm, canna, GH, Advanced Nutrients, BioBizz, Dutch Master, Grotek--because of my budget Im thinking, a quart of Humboldt Grow for now(12$ per quart). Is that ok @ 3N (N-P-K)?

thanks! I was told on another site's grow journal forum to use:
"20-10-10 or 10-5-5, just with the N being higher than the PK. The less chemicals used to get the NPK in the fertilizer the happier your plant will be."

What do you guys think? anyone else there???

I have heard that as well. I have been using DynaGrow (7-9-5) & DynaBloom (3-12-6). Occasionally I will throw in Protekt (0-0-3) to help with the hardiness of the stalks and new growth. I started with 1/4 strength nutes until I started to flower, then switched to 1/2 strength during flower. I am currently flushing my Blueberry grow for another week before harvest. Im still a noob though so I am learning. I used the same rez you are using. 18 gal sterite. I grew vertically on my first grow and there really wasnt enough room for 2 plants. They started pushing each other apart pretty bad. I ended up putting both into 5 gal bucket rez's. I think it is alot easier that way. If you LST in the 18 gal rez you should be just fine. Anyways.. take it easy and Ill sub up. Happy growing.

Thanks amax, ill check it out. wow, didnt think about the overcrowding. I have two healthy plants, and two weak ones. I was going to let them try to catch up but i may toss'em. On the other hand I was going to take 4 clones (2 from ea.= sex 2 and grow 2 if sex is fem) --so I still want four plants. so if LST works out I can fit all four? or just two comfortably? Let me know more details on how you would do the strength training (which is obviously a little ways down the road for me).

So i got my net pots, hydroton, and veg nutes. I went with humboldt master A (4-0-6), i'll get master B later. Im currently having to use unfiltered tap, but until I get that filter on my faucet I gotta use the stuff. too much extra money having to buy jugs, and or chems to dechlorinate the h2o. just gonna let the water sit in the 18 gal res and breath out the gases. how long you guys think I should wait to transplant into that setup?

pictures of the 2 week mark coming in two more days.

I am a day away from two week mark. One of my stragglers is taking off, while one is just dumb as hell--growing, but dumb as hell. Anyways, two are doing very well. I hope they are my fems. I purchased some reflector lights and set those up for now until I get to my nutes in another week when I can get two more light in there.

****Problems (need advice guys!!)****

1. I have my water still waiting to evaporate the chlorine, and there are still bubbles clinging to the sides of the walls of the res after 24 hours. Should I continue to wait for them to leave? tapping the res walls doesn't knock them off and up to the top either. I couldn't afford (no job, spent last of my resources) to get distilled water or filtered water at 18 gals. what would you guys do continue to wait another 24 hours?

2. Also I have another question, since this is my first hydro grow--I have no clue how far up on my 5" net pots the water level should be. I don't want to screw up guys so could you give me some recommendations? Thanks.

ArrrrGGGG....

Still have bubbles in my water. Im about to just buy a few distilled waters to try and replace at least 3 or 4 gals of the tap. I just cant see getting all 17

any more advice on speeding up the evaporation of chlorine (with no money or use of dechlorination drops--trying not to use harsh chems)?
***been stirrin' it too guys.

Week Two Picture Update
cant believe these two stragglers are trying to come up like they are. The new lights and pH adjustments must have saved them. The other two healthier plants are blasting off.starting node set 4 on one and 3 1/2 on the other.

2 weeks.jpg

As the picture suggests, two of my plants are ready for hydro set-up (they were a few days ago), and two could tag along--suuuure. but I know nutes are coming up for the two healthy ones (even tho they are all the same age) at 1/4 strength. what do you guys think of my plants thus far?

with the need to transfer into the res, you can see why im stressing over the water!! ADVICE FOR natural and safe dechlorination!!!PLZZZZ!!

ok silent ones. I had some help and got a brita filter. now ive changed out my res water, about to get pH down to 6.0 and transfer pete pellets to hydroton filled net cups. Ill get those pics of the setup when everything is done tonight.

alright, I have the res filled with filtered water with a pH of about 6.0-6.2
My hydroton is snug around my babies and the water level in the res is a 1/2" over the bottom of the inside of the net cups. I filled it that high because the plants don't have roots hanging anywhere near the bottom of the cup yet so I compensated. I will start to fill it 1/2" when I can see roots trying to come through the nets and when the roots fall below the pots, I will lower again to 1" for proper 'air space'. I watered on top as well for now.

I will hold off on my nutes for another week. I want my two stragglers (both doing really well now...) to catch up. lights are about 4 inches from the plants still. I have reflectors in place and I will moniter the situtation until I need nutes and more light

Here is a pic of the set up thus far (which is still temporary).

Hey bud, LST is Low Stress Training. Basically, you slightly bend and tie down the main stem until all of your branches start growing vertically. You get several main cola's vs. just 1. With regards to the amount of plants in your rez... I know people grow up to 6 in an 18 gal rez but I am sure that you will have to LST to prevent them from crowding each other. Another thing, I vegged for like 6 weeks and then flipped to flower. I think I should have only vegged for 4 weeks since I had limited space. So it def can be done, I just have not done it myself. Ill be uploading pics of my El Alquimista in a few days. I added 1/4 strength nutes and man has it been happy. The yellowing has stopped, roots are blowing up and new growth is booming.

yeah I know about LST, and thanks for reminding me, cuz im definitely going to use it. I think I will try for flowering in 4 weeks from now, and hopefully my two stragglers will catch up to provide something useful. I'll be geared for clones if they fail me. however ill have to clone anyways, cause i want them males out son! cant wait to see your plants--glad those nutes are workin for ya.

Yeah man, they are looking good. I was using 6" net pots. Looks like you are using smaller ones. Im pretty sure you will able to run 4 in that rez with those net pots. Looking good man. Im uploading pics of mine in a few. Check em out.

Well Im 2 days from my 3 weeks mark. I have a few concerned to express with you guys tho. And I would like to also take time to ask that more of you sub in so that I can get optimal feedback, thanks.

So, I have a few concerns:
1. Two of my plants seem to be a darker color green than my more healthier plant, which is a healthier, lighter green color. I believe they are all getting equal attention and exposure to elements implemented thus far--so why the difference? I had two suggestion maybe you guys could help verify. One is that there may, by some random coincidence, be two different strands. Two, those those darker plants are too nitrogen rich (the only way for this to happen prior to nute introduction is possibly in the jiffy-pellets)?? any suggestions?
2. Another concern is that the two darker green plants have some sort of curling going on... its not the dried out burnt kind (no yellowing present either), more like a slight flip to the leaf structure that is consistent in the two on their 2nd or third node sets.
3. Lastly, I have two plants...my stragglers of course...that are growing deformed leaf sets. On the second and third nodes there are not the traditional three fronded leafs--instead there are like two and a half, or even one and a half (like a single true leaf with a single frond coming out on only one side).

What are these a sign of, if anyone knows, could you please inform me promptly? Thanks guys. I will include pics to show each case I present. Thanks again.

Man... I think they look good. I imagine the color difference is in the genetics. Are they supposed to be all the same strain? If they are all feeding off of the same rez and the ph is in check, then you are good. With regards to the curling, What type of lights are you using and how close are your plants to the light? My leaves started to curl before I added nutes. After I added them, it flattened out. I think you are fine. Just my 2 pennies. Good luck!!
