Organic Window Grow from Michoacan Bagseed

Good day/Evening to everyone! I would like to share my oh so noobish south window grow. The sun is out at 06:44 and down at 18:57 today where I live and my room is on the second floor with a single window facing south. There is a room that squares with mine & it has one eastern facing window as well. To the east of my window is a wall that is 1/3 the height of my window and my window is 4/5 of the wall from top to bottom, complete window from corner to corner... Long story short, there's neighbors that can see perfectly over the eastern wall but they cannot see the bottom of my window & thus my plants suffer with only 3 and a half hours of natural sunlight behind a window. I have a timer with two 12" Cold Cathode tubes from my old pc placed directly over my setup (they really are cold enough & light enough to place directly on the plant without damage if air is always circulating & you spray your plants down once or twice a week with a fine mister & distilled water). There is also a 15 watt and an 11 watt daylight CFL that turn on at 6:15 am, off at 11:45, on at 4:15, off @ 12:15 (I usually sleep by then). I know it may not be enough for some of you but my plants have tight internodes on the top ever since I started with this setup. They may not be growing very fast but I don't care right now. I plan on buying 8 more blue CCT's and 10 red ones + 1 green one. I have an extra PC PSU with an "always on" jumper. The plan is 6 reds and 2 blues for flower on top and 4 reds and 2 blues for side lighting. Now for veg, I'll just add more blue and throw a red or 2 in the mix. I'm thinking I'll order in a week or so (broke today).

Question: Will irregular light cycles after my plant's 18/6 create hermies if I'm up past my time on my computer? 24" screen 2 metres away and facing my plants that sit behind me.

I have Topped, SC, LST to keep all of them short and as the description says "Bag Seed" Grow, from various Michoacan strains currently being used in Mexico that I've been purchasing; I hand pick my colas from the inside of the field (where males are kept for seeds) & 10 meters from the outside of the field, upwind from the males at every harvest. I'll be honest, some of it is so delicious but others taste like melted Marlboro cigarette butts in acetone from pesticides 4 bugs (smoking certain sprayed plants out here is determined by time of season and time untill harvest)...

To the good stuff! These plants were popped in a ziplock and towel on the window along with a lemon seed (which is already an inch tall with 2 tiny leaves ^_^!) and are in soil from an area that is lush in vegetation and has a dark chocolate brown color, it stays moist and rich for a reasonable amount of time (even in direct sunlight) + it smells worthy of my grave when it's wet; it has acorns, fine bladed grass, clovers & a lot of decomposed chunks of twigs & the like. I don't have the Mylar I ordered from **** yet or the 3 in 1 soil tester (ordered 1 week ago from china). I tend to water when I bury my finger knuckle deep in the 3 gallon pot & it feels somewhat on the dry side & for the other plants, I simply pick them up to check for weight (I never let my plants go completely dry like some like to do + they are in 20 OZ and 1 Litre cups with proper drainage).

No nutrients (Except a quick shot of some Oaxaca - high elevation arabica coffee, not that it matters what kind I think) and water I've been leaving out for a couple days before using it. Four of the biggest plants have been topped above node #4 & all have been S.C.'ed bellow the petioles. the rest of the plants received LST + S.C.. They all show different traits, I.E.: 3 leaf for the second set and on up on the sugar leafs and it's been topped, the lateral branches show 5 leaf sets now o.0. I know it's pretty normal & it might be a crappy plant but it's something and something is better than nothing. Another plant (3 gallon) has a really thick stalk for it's age and I swear on everything that it smells up my room the next day after I water it, the rest don't smell much. I rub it ever so lightly and it is SUPER DANK! Another one has lateral growth where the petiole used to be but only on one side of the stalk... what a dysfunctional family! HAHA! Anyhoo, I'm going to give them nutes when they're ready for flower unless the tester tells me different... My room stays a pleasant 85F degrees day and night now (I HATE IT) but fluctuated between 72F and 81F degrees a month and a week ago when the first 4 popped up, 3 popped a week later, and the last one a week later. I have a seed from some unknown lemon strain x unknown. All I know is that the plants were short with some redish brownish hairs and a short bushy look with mostly indica leaves (I'll keep you all posted when it pops up).

Whew! Anything I left out? elevation is around 1200 feet & the weather is constant with humidity between 35% & 68%.

Ideas? Suggestions? Feel free to comment ^_^

hey carnal, is that all u using is the led light and the other light, plus the food n soil n what not
Yeah bro, but I'm not using LED technology. I'm using Cold Cathode tubes. The kind you order for your computer to make it flashy; they are very similar to neon. Blue and red colors are the most important colors for MJ. I would recomend a couple of UVB lights in the mix for flowering too.

Here's a nice little chart I like from:

Manures

source N P K comments
Rabbit manure 2.4 1.4 0.6 Most concentrated of animal manures in fresh form.
Cow manure (dairy) 0.6 0.2 0.5 Often contains weed seeds, should be hot composted.
Steer manure 0.7 0.3 0.4 Often contains weed seeds, should be hot composted if fresh.
Chicken manure 1.1 0.8 0.5 Fast acting, breaks down quickest of all manures.
Use carefully, may burn. Also, stinks like hell - composting definitely recommended.
Horse manure 0.7 0.3 0.6 Medium breakdown time.
Duck manure 0.6 1.4 0.5 .
Sheep manure 0.7 0.3 0.9 .
Worm castings 0.5 0.5 0.3 50% organic material plus 11 trace minerals. Great for seedlings, will not burn.
Is a form of compost, so doesn't need composting.
Desert Bat Guano 8 4 1 Also contains trace elements. Fast-acting, mix in soil or as tea (1 C guano to 5 gal. water).
Cave Bat Guano 3 10 1 .
Fossilized Seabird Guano 1 10 1 Slow release over 3 to 12 weeks, best used as an addition to potting mix.
Peruvian Seabird Guano (pelletized) 12 12 2.5 Legendary fertilizer of the Incas. Use in soil as a long lasting fertilizer, or make into tea (1 tsp pellets to 1 gallon water).

Note: it is recommended to first compost any fresh manure before you use it for 2 reasons:
1) to lessen the chance of harmful pathogens.
2) to break down the manure to make it more usable to the plant (and reduce the smell!)
The rates for pig or human manure are not listed because of the high rate of harmful pathogens they contain.

yes irregular light can cause your plants to hermie & any major stress to the plant can also cause it to hermie. What strains you growing? Nice to see someone growing from my ancestors homeland.

Just bag seed. It's hard to tell because they don't speak english and so they just call it whatever they want. Verde Limon, Mostaza, Pelo Rojo, Cola de Zorillo, etc... hard to tell until they flower. I'll compare final outcome to online pics and descriptions. One love

thanks carnal, how much does lights cost u? and the air,ur using fans on it?
a kit of 2 lights should run around $10 US dollars online or no more than $20 at your local PC mod shop. Make sure you use a 12 V power supply with enough amperage if you want to run multiple lights. As far as fans go, I use my ceiling fan on med or high all the time. I also have a fresh air fan on the window with a built in thermometer and it's set at 85F degrees all the time so no worries about air & temp there. When I move to flowering, I'll be washing them down in a sterile cabinet in veg cycle for 1 week & then flip the switch with some 250mm PC case fans with a push pull config and order a few carbon filters.

Edit: If you grow in your room, close the door every night unless it's super stuffy. My plants suck up mad CO2 when the lights come on from me breathing heavy when I sleep and the fresh air fan doesn't kick in because it's cooler at night.

In pics 7 & 11 in your first post ( the seedling thats in the clear cup) you should transplant that one into a cup that has holes in the bottom so all the extra shit can run out. It looks like it's suffering from over-watering

Those are cuttings. I'm trying to clone these the old school way with none of the fancy methods used today. One has been in that water for 6 days now and it's still up, just waiting 4 roots to show. the other trimming was put in last night after I snapped a side shoot on accident. Just drinking water and some regular dirt for a nute boost and to promote root growth.

I get so much bud & seeds that I'm not too worried if these bitches fail

Those are cuttings. I trimmed the leaves yesterday night and this morning they were so much better. I'm trying to get roots the old school way by placing in water and dirt. That's all that is needed.

I just ordered 10 Logisys 12" CCFL lights for flowering which I'll be using with a couple of low wattage 2700K CFL lights that I have. I'll be lollypopping the girls with more LST when they go into 12/12... Here's a couple more pics of how my room is set up. Excuse the crappy images, I left my pentax 12MP cam at the other house so I'm using my Garmin Nuvi 295w (3MP cam). If you need help, let me know =)

UPDATE:

2 plants show fem signs (no pistils yet. Sorry about the mistake in pic #1, meant calyxes), I see what appear to be calyxes and one I'm not too sure about but seems male for some reason. Have to wait

On 18/6 1x15w4700k 1x11w4700k cfl and blue 2x12" ccfl. Light is not strong enough I guess and will veg but show signs of sex on it's own (personal opinion) without switching lights.

Were sprouted around 3-2-2011 and are just now showing signs. The 3 gallon pot does not show any signs yet and the lateral branches are now LST'ed at the penultimate nodes. Debating whether to pluck the sugar leaves at the nodes. I notice on 2 nodes where the sugar leaves were taken off are now thicker than the rest of the branches... any advice from any of you that have encountered this? Am I right or is it luck?

Update!!!

Ok, so at one point I got fed up with my 4 dwarf plants in the 1 lt cups... My plants are mature now and have alternating nodes on all of them at one branch or another (except the bonzai I took cuttings from but that is due to stress from chopping 2 nodes up for clones - the plant has 4 lateral branches and no sugar leaves) and 3 of the 5 plants left of the original batch show signs of sex already and are about to go in full force so those plants are getting all of the sun they can from the room next to me (brother is gone all week) & bring them in when the sun is out of reach into the new grow closet I made. It's 140 cm tall X 65 cm wide X 50 cm deep. I ordered the Mylar on e*** from C**** so it took like damn near a month to get here ($41 US dollars for 27" x 50'!). I also ordered a 4300K 55W HID h1 kit (lights + ballasts) for 54.85 total & a 12V 10A power converter for 21 dollars. I know that 4300K is not ideal for flowering but it is right in the middle of red and blue and with only one light + I still plan on putting in at least 4 or 6 red CCFL lights into he mix. That 10A box can handle the initial load if the red lights are on a separate timer than the HID since both CCFL and HID require massive amounts of power for a second or 2 and then they settle down into their infamous energy saving mode. I plan on tying the lights into my 800W battery backup in case power decides to brown out or cut out so I don't fry the ac/dc converter.

What do you guys think? Ideas? Suggestions?

New editions from a new batch that poped the very next day, I kid you not ^_^; The right one was a runt seed with green stem, the middle one is damn near a magenta stem and broad leaves, it was also a gargantuan seed! Like a retarded pea that popped almost instantly o.0 .oO(I'm keeping an eye on this one). Last but not least is the one on the far left, it was almost as fast at popping as the "Big Magenta" (I still have the casings in the bag they popped from & I'll post pics tomorrow). It has a dark lower stem and a greener upper stem with Sativa dominant-looking primaries.

N64 power packs work great for a set of 12" CCFL. Point eight amps and 12V on the pack/ .7A for a pair of CCFL 12" blue -25,000 - 30,000 lux (each?) & a 12v 400ma box powering a 0.22A 120MM Azza PC case fan from my PC build that wasn't needed before  & it all runs nice & cool with no ventilation.

Nice Progress bro
Thanks ^_^

Here's a few more pics of the grow as of today. Bad quality pictures because of the iphone 3gs & not my pentax (mom has it for her vacation)... The one plant that always had the darkest color & droopy leaves showed hairs but showed balls too so I uprooted it & was going to make tea but decided @ the last moment to transplant outside (torn roots & everything) & it's still alive! Goes to show that these plants are much tougher than anyone gives credit...

My plants have been getting nothing but rainwater I collected in the garden from a deep puddle on the concrete the last week also (still rainwater) & noticed crazy growth! Amazing what nature can supply!

Square containers are the 3 clear cup seedlings in previous pics except for the bottom left square container, that one was a surprise I found it in the runoff last time I dropped some seeds in there while smoking and checking on my plants ^_^. Top right-square container contains my "Big Magenta".

Bottom left cup is a Jalapeño seedling from dinner a week ago (GROWS FAST!)... red cup, & clear cup are rooted clones (took forever to root in water) & the bottom white cup is a top I knocked off the 3 gal pot on accident. It's been 3 days and it's still going so I guess I saved it. I was going to trim the leaves but I decided against it and see how it ends up.

The left cutting has always been the runt of the cuttings but it's just barely wanting to take off. The right cutting I believe was the very top of the plant.
