Born on the 4th of July

Picture a beautiful bud from a batch of damn-near-perfect Killa Kush that just knocks you on your ass and makes you like it. Top-shelf, coupla grams maybe in a tight bud, sugar coated and sticky. And right in the middle of it a single seed. I vape, so I found it easily, and I was happy as hell.

This is the life and times of Kala, the unexpected Killer Kush marijuana seed. She (I'm hoping) was born on the 4th of July, or at least that's when I put her in water.

I'm a total newbie, but with my first grow (from clones) going pretty well, I decided I would try to rush this seed into this growing season. The indoor guys are often vegging a lot less time than I have left in the outdoor season, so why not, right? Nothing to lose, so here we go.

Put Kala in a sterile, clear plastic bottle in distilled water for a day. Tapped her and she sank. Put her between some damp paper towels on a saucer, keeping everything sterile (mostly) and damp (thoroughly) and covered the seed with a cup. Couple days and shaZAM! A little sprout. I had a fast-rooting tray ready for clones later in the year, so I'm using one of those cubes to start off. Got everything under a moisture hood and high-end aquarium CFL light (80W fan vented, half 10k and half 6700; designed to turn a planted aquarium into a jungle from 24 inches away). So Kala is about her own length down in her solo cube at the center of attention. Wish us luck! And keep the advice coming, please!

She's coming out! Jeez that was fast:

So assuming I want to get her outside as soon as it's safe, tomorrow I plan to:

- remove the hood and start misting with RO water a few times a day
- move from 24-hr light to match outside light (planning to use a dawn to dusk timer)
- keep the light (80W cfl) about 6-8 inches above her
- keep the soil moist but not wet
- keep it that way until I see roots.

Please tell me if there's a better way.

She started leaning a little, even 6 inches under the light, so I moved the light closer and turned her around to correct the bend. Believe it or not, she seems to be moving toward the 6,700k lights. I'm using an aquarium light that is 80W of mixed 6,700 and 10k, and 6,700 always made my planted freshwater aquariums go nuts with growth. BUT, I have a fan on from only one direction right now, and she's leaning INTO that breeze, so maybe it's just part of the stalk strengthening? Anyway, enjoy the baby pictures:

yes definitely after it has its first set of leaves I'd slam that light down on it within 1-2 inches and keep the fan goin 24/7 for stem strengthening. I moved one of my babes outside for most of the day yesterday and placed it in the east facing window sill so they sun would hit it this morning and moved it back out side just now. It seems to be doing ok. I have picked 2 little bugs off it tho.

Last night before bed, I checked just for the hell of it to see if any roots had appeared, and they were all OVER the place. Only about a half-centimeter or so out, but out on the sides and the bottom. I just dropped this seed in water about a week ago!

I had intended to go directly into the big pot, but it wasn't ready, so I transplanted into a small pot in 100% Foxfarm Ocean. And I'll be damned if this little plant hasn't grown a centimeter since then even with a 5 hour dark period overnight. Not even transplant shock. I'm going to move the entire new pot contents into the big pot later today, trying not to disturb anything around the small root ball. The stem is thickening up nicely in the fan breeze, and she's GUZZLING water.

I see so many opinions on this -- when do you guys suggest I start with my grow nutes. (i'm using Mother's Earth teas on the big girls)

Took her out to see sunshine for 60 seconds today...sorry for the blurry picture:

Moved her into the big pot last night (closest planter -- sorry, you can't really see the plant but she's down there in the center and doing well. Any thoughts on the setup?

Lookin good brother. I see you too were having trouble sealing the humidity dome and wrapped it in some plastic wrap.

Personally, I think the pot is way way to big for the little plant. But, if you water with a turkey baster, think sips not gulps, you should be okay.

no doubt! It's WAY too big, but this is just a fun project to see what happens. Accidental seed, and the pot is to create some huge indoor plant porn. :)

Skipped a few updates here...sorry if anyone's following. She's growing well and I've started LST. Here's the latest:

One day after first LST tie and she's up and sending out new leaf sets. I love this plant.

Did the second LST tie-down today. The original tie wasn't even touching the plant afterward, so I pulled it out. She's nicely parallel to the ground now and heading for the side of the pot. Green as hell, but no nutes, just Foxfarm. She has a little alkaline moist spot right below the root ball, and I don't know how to change it without making it MORE damp, so I'm just watching:
